10 iPhone Security Settings You Should Change

Published

on

If you want to make your iPhone more secure from thieves or just prying eyes in general, here are ten iPhone security settings you should change.

We recently discussed some ways to enhance the privacy of your iPhone, and while privacy and security kind of go hand-in-hand most of the time, there’s still a distinct difference between the two, which is why we thought it was a good idea to discuss some security features that you should enable on your iPhone.

You always hear stories about thieves stealing iPhones, and according to Consumer Reports, over three million smartphones were stolen in 2013 alone, but that number is slowly going down as companies and users alike are getting better at securing their devices.

Having your iPhone stolen is one thing, but the thieves having access to your device and all of your information on that device is an entirely different beast that you have to do deal with.

However, with the right security settings and features enabled, you can prevent thieves from getting access to your iPhone and essentially provide them with a paperweight that they can’t do anything with.

Here are ten iPhone security settings that you should change and/or enable right now.

Set Up Passcode & Touch ID

Set Up Passcode & Touch ID

Perhaps the most important security setting to enable is the passcode. With a passcode, no one can get on your iPhone without typing it in.

Plus, if you have the iPhone 5s or newer, you can set up Touch ID and unlock your iPhone quickly and easily using your fingerprint. However, it doesn't make your iPhone more secure, but simply just adds more convenience for the owner.

Simply go into Settings and tap on Touch ID & Passcode to set it up.

If you do want to make your passcode more secure, you can enable a six-digit passcode in iOS 9 instead of just a four-digit passcode.
