10 Things to Know About the iPhone 5 iOS 8.4.1 Update

Published

on

Last Thursday, Apple rolled out a new iOS update dubbed iOS 8.4.1. iOS 8.4.1 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch is a small but extremely interesting update and one that iPhone 5 users across the globe should know about. With those users in mind, we take a look at a few things to know about the iPhone 5 iOS 8.4.1 update.

At WWDC, Apple announced plans to release its new Apple Music platform alongside iOS 8.4, a major update for iOS 8 and one that many people believed would be the last iOS 8 update before the release of Apple’s brand new iOS 9 operating system for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

As it turns out, Apple had (at least) one more iOS 8 update up its sleeve and last week, Apple took the iOS 8.4.1 update out of beta for the first time.

iOS 8.4.1 isn’t as big as the update that came before it but it’s still an important update for all devices capable of running iOS 8. It’s available Over-the-Air or through iTunes and there’s reason to believe that it will be the last iOS 8 update before iOS 9’s release.

As we’ve pushed away from the iOS 8.4.1 release date, we’ve started to learn more about the iOS 8.4.1 update and its performance. We’ve also been taking a look at individual iOS 8.4.1 updates including the iPhone 5 iOS 8.4.1 release and its performance in key areas like battery life and connectivity.

Today we want to take a look at the most important things to know about iOS 8.4.1 for iPhone 5. This covers the right now and this covers what you need to know about the iPhone 5’s iOS 8.4.1 update as we push deeper into the summer towards the phone’s iOS 9 release.

The first thing iPhone 5 users need to know about iOS 8.4.1 is that performance continues to hold up in the days after its release date.

We've been using the software on an iPhone 5 that we picked up back in 2012 and it's holding up nicely. Battery life is still excellent, connectivity is holding up (LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth), and the speed of the UI is still intact.

We haven't run into any noticeable bugs or issues and the update appears to be as stable as the iOS 8.4 update was for several weeks after its release on June 30th. We expect it to remain stable as we close in on the iOS 9 release date.

While we're having a good experience, we still recommend branching out to gather feedback from other sources. Apple's own discussion forums are great place to start looking for feedback from fellow iPhone 5 users.
