10 Things to Know About the iPhone 5 iOS 9.1 Update

Published

on

Two weeks ago, Apple released an iPhone 5 iOS 9.1 update that brings fixes and new features to its former flagship. As we push into November, we want to take a look at the most important things owners need to know now about the iPhone 5 iOS 9.1 release.

In September, Apple confirmed the first major update to its brand new iOS 9 operating system. The company didn’t roll out the red carpet for iOS 9.1. Instead, it confirmed its arrival with a release into its beta programs for developers and the general public.

In October, after several weeks of testing, Apple rolled out the iOS 9.1 update to the iPhone 5 and its other iOS 9 powered devices. As expected, the update brings tons of changes to Apple’s new OS for mobile devices.

iOS 9.1 comes with 150 new emojis for the iPhone 5 keyboard, a ton of bug fixes for iOS 9 problems, and enhancements for some of Apple’s most popular applications. Those make the iOS 9.1 update worthy of your attention.

We’ve been using the iPhone 5 iOS 9.1 update for two weeks now and today we want to take a close look at what we’ve learned about the iOS 9.1 update’s performance, about its problems, and its potential successor dubbed iOS 9.2.

If you’re still on the fence about whether or not you want iOS 9.1, this will help. This roundup will also help those of you that’ve already installed Apple’s first big upgrade for iOS 9. Keep all of these in mind as we push away from the iPhone 5 iOS 9.1 release.

I've been using the iPhone 5 iOS 9.1 update for two weeks and the software continues to perform well on the phone I bought all the way back in 2012.

Up until the iOS 9.1 release, I had been experiencing horrible lag issues on my iPhone 5. Folders would open up slowly. Control Center would lag. And the UI would frequently slow down and skip. It was extremely annoying.

iOS 9.1 isn't perfect but it's 10x better than many of the updates that came before it. Apps still open slowly but everything else feels much, much faster. It's a complete 180 for a phone that I thought I was going to factory reset and sell.

If you're on an older version of iOS 9 and you're having problems, I recommend the iOS 9.1 update. If you're on something older than iOS 9, you'll want to be extremely careful. iOS 9.1 is the best iOS 9 update but it has the potential to cause problems. I'm liking iOS 9 now that I have iOS 9.1 on board.

Still have lag with 9.1. It’s annoying to say the least. Software lack of testing before release is getting to the point where we are now having to “wait” for Apple.
