A companion device I’m interested in – the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet

Along with keeping my eye on the PepperPad, I’ve been keeping a close eye on Nokia Internet Tablet, primarily the new N800. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it by the Nokia booth at CES, so I’m left to read about the N800 on various sites and blogs. 

When you look at what the Nokia N800 offers, the experience it is catered to, and the price point, it is becoming clearer to me that the Origami / UMPC folks have to have the N800 in its target zone. Check out these features and tell me what there is not to like about a device like the N800, especially priced at $399 ( Amazon affiliate link )? The only thing missing, in my opinion, is a built-in keyboard like the PepperPad and Medion UMPC.

Where does the Origami / UMPC have the N800 beat? Full XP / Vista operating system and all that comes with having an integrated environment for your applications and data, operating memory, massive storage space compared to 4gb of storage on the N800, and of course the Microsoft Tablet PC recognizer functions.

I’ve love to try the N800 out and give it a spin, compare it with real world experiences against various Ultra-Mobile PC’s I’ve used. We’ll see if GBM can’t get their hands on one….
