USB 3.0 On The Horizon
Looks like there is a new USB standard on the horizon. Intel is working with its partners to release USB 3.0 in the first half of 2008 and is aiming to provide transfer rates up to 10 times faster than what we now know as USB 2.0. The advancement here is due to the addition of a fiber-optic link that transfers data alongside the traditional copper wires. Supposedly it will be backward compatibile with USB 2.0. Note that once the spec is released it takes some time for the new standard to make it into technology, so we’ll probably not see much of this until 2009.
