My nomination: Toshiba R400. Best screen, best inking, best looking and best Vista experience I've had to date.

I hearby nominate the Lenovo x61t. Using the dual-mode model has, literally, changed how I use computers forever!

Am I right in thinking the X60T did not actually ship until the start of the year?
If so, I nominate the X60T with SXGA+ high resolution screen.
A wonderful tablet, that may not be as cutting edge as it was at the beginning of the year, but the SVGA screen is miles ahead of the grease and smudge magnet of the "super"view SXGA+ on my X61T.

I'm torn between the M700 and the X61T... they're both so fantastic!

I would nominate my company's newest product, the OQO model e2 with Solid State Drive and HSDPA (3.5G) WWAN. Lots of kudos from customers, press, analysts. I'm a little biased, but this computer finally got me inking (including in this post!) ...

The OQO model 02 and OQO model e2 were introduced and began shipping this year, and really had a big impact in the market.

I'm going with Lenovo x60t/x61t, a very balanced tablet.

I don't have mine yet but it's ordered, and on specs alone, it's gotta be the M700.

Gateway C-120X. Has touchpad for notebook mode (I find the IBM pencil eraser thing completely unusable, and I did try for several days to get used to it). Has dual mode (touch and pen). Uses Wacom technology. Takes 2.5" drives (I just put a 320GB one in mine).

Price + Specs + service + blows away everything === The Toshiba M700 hands down. Or do you just want a slow x61

Fujitsu T4220, hands down. Why? Full Duo processor (no wimpy ULV chips that can barely run Vista), a pen that you can actually get to, bi-directional swivel, and something the other guys can't seem to figure out - a swappable DVD/battery. Duh! Let's not forget almost 8 hours with the secondary battery (that's small enough to fit in my bag - get a clue, Lenovo) running a 2.4Ghz proc - and only 4lbs! Yes, it's ugly as sin, but it trounces the competition when you actually need to get some work done.

Tablet Kiosk i440D for many reasons...along with running Vista and using virtual operating systems on the unit, there's some really nice hardware features such as the dual array microphones which work with Vista dictation, the ability to use a hardware button to quickly switch back and forth between touch and digitizer, 3 programmable buttons to open frequently used programs, and the biometric log on with the wake on swipe, one feature I use all the time. In addition to running Microsoft Office 2007 with no issues I also use it to show media presentations to others without a hitch. It is my fully functioning portable office.

I absolutely think that it has to be the HP2710p. Check my blog for more detail on this great Tablet.

Hmmm... Tough call. The Toshiba R400 has the innovative wireless dock but is priced out of reach for mere mortals like me. HP's 2710p has style beyond anything else in a convertible and an external battery that you can actually carry with you and not ever mind having along but lost the scroll wheel and touch pad. The Lenovo X61T puts a lot together very well, including the ability to change orientation even when Windows is locked or not logged in but is rather ugly and chunky. None of these are speed demons, to say the leaszt. Others have faster processors than any of these but poorer battery life. Lots of them have some kind of innovative feature but with compromises elsewhere.

And the winner is... <drumroll>

</drumroll> None of the above!

I don't see anything currently on the market that outshines everything else sufficiently to claim a Tablet of the Year ranking in my book. There have been some innovations and improvements, but I just don't see anything that wows me. I still miss the TC1100 and after, what, four years?, that's a crime. We're five years into this platform and few of the improvements seem to me to have been revolutionary and too many maufacturers, such as HP, take as many steps backward as they have forward.

Sahara i440D - first, I'm a slate guy; second, I love touch - sometimes I just don't want to hold the pen; third, you can put a 200gb, 7200rpm hard drive in it; fourth, they include a stand

Certainly the LG C1 (http://de.lge.com/products/model/detail/c1serie_c1pabcag.jhtml#)should be on the shortlist! (Unless "Launched and available for ordering in 2007" means "in the US" - LG doesn't sell notebooks in the US)

I believe that The DELL latitdude XT tablet is going to have the biggest impact this year. It may not sell many at first, but the people that do buy it will be extremely satisfied.

Close call - the HP 2710p or the Fujitsu T2010, with the HP edging out the Fuji by a nose because of its more solid form-factor

My vote is for the X61. I had always been a Motion slate user, but I am extremely happy with this super tablet from Lenovo. My X61 is absolutely fully loaded. The new Dell tablet looks really nice, but when I outfit it the same way, the price is just crazy!

I have used an M400, Motion, and Lenovo X61. The X61 wins hands down. Better built, longer battery life and, gasp, the best keyboard I have ever used.

Fujitsu sweeps again!

Best Convertible: Fujitsu T2010
Lightweight, very portable, gorgeous LED backlit screen, solid construction and mind staggering battery life. (7.5 hours standard battery, 11.5 hours extended battery. Verified by yours truly)
I do own this device so I guess I'm somewhat biased, but I have tried a large number of devices before purchase.
Runner up Convertible: HP 2710p.
A close contendor to the Fujitsu T2010. Small, light, sexy aluminum enclosure, good LED backlit screen, but less battery life.

Best slate: Fujitsu ST5112
Thin as a pancake (literally), great battery life, HOT SWAPPABLE BATTERY. IMO Fujitsu is unchallenged in this market segment. I have sold a good number of these to medical customers and they are solid as a rock. I *almost* bought one of these, but I need a keyboard too much so I got the T2010.

Lenovo w/ superwide screen, 2 gb Vista & Dock. I am on my 3rd tablet going back to an original Toshiba Portege. The Lenovo x61t running Vista is a nice integrated package. Vista and OneNote do a nice job of recognition on the x61. Performance is fine. I had an early production Asus, but returned due to screen driver problems. nice package, but unusable. the x61 w/ dock is a great combo for my productivity in the office w/ customers, interviews, meetings, emails, etc, etc.

According to several reviews and the personal experience, it is undeniable that the Tablet PC of the year is:

The HP 2710P

Cheers my friends.

The Lenovo X61T Multitouch.
Monday, December 31, 2007 9:54:04 PM (Mountain Standard Time, UTC-07:00)
Like Ed, I vote for the Lenovo X61T Multitouch. I like the HP 2710P, but it's the combination of active/passive digitizer that puts the Lenovo over the top for me.
