Small Netbook Screens Are Getting Bigger

Published

Xujiren at asuseeehacks.blogspot.com has posted an interesting commentary stating why he believes netbook manufacturers will eventually phase out smaller 7-inch and 8.9-inch screens for larger 10-inch screens.  The proliferation of devices like 10-inch LCD picture frames and larger portable DVD players has played a substantial role in reducing the price of larger screens.

The biggest deal breaker in my decision to sell my Eee PC 701 was that the screen was too small.  I loved the build quality, performance, and portability, but the small screen was just too aggravating to use on a daily basis.  It is important to be portable, but more important to be practical.  Of course there will always be those homebrew boys and girls that enjoy the challenge of stuffing an oversized LCD into a small frame, but most folks just want something that is readable, works, and is cheap.  Avram Piltch of LAPTOP Magazine recently posted a poll asking readers if they were sick of their old Eee PC 701.  Despite the small size and cheap price of the 701, carrying around a magnifying glass defeats the purpose.

Which do you prefer: 7, 8.9, or 10 inches?  Leave your thoughts in the comments.
