WIPTE Starts Tomorrow – Are You Going?

wipte I have been to WIPTE for the past 2 years, but unfortunately I am not going to make it this year.   While everybody is checking out Tablet PCs and how they apply to education, I’ll be with my Mom while she is getting a knee replacement…

So, who’s going?   It’s always been a good time with lots of great discussions.

WIPTE is open to anyone with an interest in instructional technology. A wide variety of disciplines are embracing Tablet PC’s and similar pen-based devices as tools for the radical enhancement of teaching and learning. This conference is intended to leverage this shared passion and to identify best practices in the educational use of pen-based computing so that all educators may benefit from this next generation of technology. Each WIPTE paper presentation includes an assessment component as an important part of the presentation. The WIPTE program also includes keynote talks, poster presentations, vendor booths, panels, and special sessions.

    Lora will be there as well as our parents. Lora will referee a session on Tablets and blogging and Bob will lead a panel on assessing Tablets in learning.

    Jared from the University of Louisville Student Tablet Users Group will be there. I’m not able to make it, so he’ll be there solo-ish.

    Hopefully I can make it next year.

    I’m here, along with about 130 others from 26 states and 4 countries outside the US (including me from Jordan). So far the conference has been everything I’ve come to expect. (I am a bit biased, being one of the organizers, so take it with the requisite grain of salt.)

    Charles Bostian’s keynote this morning was fabulous. He was a long-time technology hold-out and self-described curmudgeon about it teaching engineering courses for Virginia Tech. He was finally swayed when he saw other teachers there using Tablet PCs and has refused to go back.

    Great presentations and great Tablet PC networking. It is like a breath of fresh air for the Tablet PC idealist in me.
