Windows Live Mesh Beta Updates and Adds Mac Client

Published

on

Rob alluded to this the other day, and it looks like it is literally happening as I blog this. Windows Live Mesh is in the process of updating and in that process I’ve noticed that the Mac Client is now available. Supposedly this means that the Beta is now open, or is about to open up as well. There is also supposed to be support for a Windows Mobile client, but I don’t have one of those devices handy at the moment to check that out.

UPDATE: According to ReadWriteWeb Microsoft is only allowing a limited number of Mac Clients onto the Mesh at first, and the Windows Mobile Client for 6.0 and 6.1 is now available.

That said, I have the Mac Client up and running on my iMac and all seems to be operating well at the moment. I’ve also installed Mesh on the Lenovo ThinkPad X61 running Windows 7 and see no issues there either as everything is syncing across just fine.

It might be that my account just didn’t get update yet, but when I logon it says “coming soon” for both the Mobile and Mac client. I’ll have to wait a couple more days more I guess.

@Pierre – look for a hyperlink underneath the message that says your device is not available – mine just showed “Limited Tech Preview for Mac Now Available”

Interesting. I’m guessing this is a phased rollout. Another friend here at the office isn’t seeing it yet either.

Got the upgrade notification early yesterday evening and performed it immediately. I’m now running v.0.9.3424.5.

I am however having a minor problem. I have two systems (both running Vista Ultimate SP1) logged in with the same ID simultaneously. Yet, while files get synchronized properly, both systems show the other as being “off-line.” Each also indicates for the other that “Live Mesh Remote Desktop is not available.”

    Hmmm….

The Windows Mobile links are active now!! I just instlled it on my Mogul and am liking it so far.

PS– If it gives an error trying to register, go to Mesh.com from your PC, sign in, click Add Device, Mobile Device once and then try again to signin on the phone. Not sure why that is.

Does remote desktop from the mac client to a windows device work? Since there is no activeX browser on OS X this is a huge feature the client will make available.

    Mind testing it?

scoobie: I’m sure we could arrange something. FYI: I don’t have UMPC around at the moment and don’t think anyone else on the team does either. What would you want to see in an InkShow about this?
