I didn’t really understand what this is about?
Is this a contest?
Please explain.
Readers submit nominations in each category and we’ll pick a winner and award the winning companies a Splotch. This is not a reader contest, but a way to recognize various companies in the industry about what we like / don’t like.
Oh, thanks!
-Mobile PC of the Year: Lenovo X60 tablet
-Software of the Year: Outlook 2007 and the Microsoft TIP
-Mobile Gadget of the Year: My Samsung c260
-Most Promising Technology of the Year: Hmmm tough choice: It will have to be both the Lenovo X200tablet and the HTC Touch HD
-Biggest Wow! of the Year: Windows 7
-Biggest Letdown of the Year: little improvement and innovation of inking technology.
@medic – the x60 tablet was not launched during 2008. The x200 was, though. Same for Outlook 2007 – see the guidelines above.

* Mobile PC of the Year–Asus EEE PC. Started netbook craze.
* Software of the Year–Firefox 3. Better than ever. Customizable. Free.
* Mobile Gadget of the Year–16 gig USB key. Carry a portable desktop, use any computer.
* Most Promising Technology of the Year–N-Trig capacitive touch. Yeah, I know the Dell XT is a long way from perfect, but the integrated capacitive touch and inking is still a magnificent technology. Give it some time.
* Biggest Wow! of the Year–iPhone. How did it become such a “must have?”
* Biggest Letdown of the Year–Vista SP 1. Still didn’t fix so many issues.
* Mobile PC of the Year – Dell Latitude XT. Despite its detractors and problems, the first multi-touch, capacitive convertible should be recognized. Dell took a risk, and if they aren’t rewarded for it, they might not try again.
Mobile PC: HP EliteBook 2730p
Software: Gottabemobile.com’s re-design and ink enabled forum
Mobile Gadget: iPhone
Most Promising Technology: Windows 7 pre beta
Biggest Wow!: TouchSmart tx2
Biggest Letdown: Lack of interest by the italian OEMs to engage and support italian tablet pc sites
Hi Rob:
Ah, yes, well, uhmm….
well I guess I lost my chance to choose best mobile pc. I have not had the opportunity to test the other and voting voor the x200t would be argued as a suggested option by the jury, which would alter the truthfulness of choice. So I will accept my loss of vote on that part.
As for the software I would choose CCcleaner as an alternative to outlook 2007.
Axiotron Modbook for mobile gadget or most promising technology!
Mobile PC: 2730p
Software: Firefox
Mobile Gadget: iPhone 3G
Most Promising Technology: Capacitive Touch
Biggest Wow!: 2730p!
Biggest Letdown: N-Trig :(
Mobile PC: Hp TX series tablets
Software: OneNote and Dragon NS10
Mobile Gadget: iphone 3G
Most promising tech: Capacitive touch
Biggest WOW. iphone 3G
biggest let down: Microsoft’s continuing pathetic marketing of the tablet pc.
* Mobile PC of the Year: (The landscape-altering netbooks in general, but if made to pick just one netbook, I’d still nominate the Eee PC, if only for the sheer number of variations Asus managed to release this year.)
* Software of the Year: InkSeine! (Love it!)
* Mobile Gadget of the Year: Netbooks
* Most Promising Technology of the Year: 24 hour battery life for laptops!
* Biggest Wow! of the Year: InkSeine!
* Biggest Letdown of the Year: (Even in the year of the Netbook, none of the models released had excellent tablet – i.e. natural handwritten notetaking – support)
Mobile PC: 2730p
Software: Opera 9.5 for making the TIP work in Opera
Gadget: Targus wireless presenter
Promising technology: e-Ink tablets and Silver Zinc batteries
