Yes, the Intel Classmate Will Be at CES2009

classmateleadWe’ve known Intel’s Convertible Classmate was coming in 2009 (Truc posted on this awhile back.) But now we have confirmation. Joanna at Laptop Mag had a chat with Intel and she seems impressed with how Intel has tuned up the software and some of the touch applications.

In fact, Joanna seems quite impressed with the touch screen given that the device runs XP Home which isn’t all that touch and Tablet friendly. Apparently Intel has added its own software to take advantage of the touchscreen (passive).   Joanna also seems impressed with the palm rejection.

We’ll have to check this out at CES.

These are very exciting, not just for kids. Give them a decent adult sized keyboards and an important new category will have emerged that transcends traditional WIMP, keyboard, application oriented computers. For once the “clones” may actually be leading the charge (since MS doesn’t seem very involved with the netbook thing – like Apple they don’t seem to particularly want to encourage it, with their cast-off attitude). It’s like the OEMs are responding better to the users than the controllers (OS makers) are. Very interesting.
