GBM Shortcut: Atek OnBoard Travel Keyboard
Several weeks ago we brought you news about Atek’s new “mobile” solution, the OnBoard Travel Keyboard. We got our review unit in a few days ago, and in this GBM Shortcut I share my impressions about Atek’s mobile solution. To learn if this keyboard might be for you, checkout our video below.

Update: The Atek folks let me know that the keyboard cover can be used to tilt the keyboard up. It is still too big for me to use as a mobile keyboard, but this is good to know.

Rob: May be mistaken, but I believe that when removed, the KB cover can be put on in reverse (bottom side) to give the KB a bit of a tilt…

Perhaps after reading the Atek Onboard keyboard manual, you might consider redoing your video review.
You ask “What do you do with the cover?” Well, you put it under the keyboard and it becomes a tilting base – just what you say you prefer.
Also, with the Atek mounted on the cover, it is very stable on flat surfaces.
In short, your review is, to this longtime GBM reader, very inaccurate and misleading.
I purchased one of these keyboards soon after I first saw it announced here or on jkOnTheRun. For those of us with large fingers and small laptop keyboards who are sometimes called upon to produce 20 – 30 page documents overnight while on the road, the Atek Onboard is a godsend and well worth the space it takes up in my suitcase or rollabout.
In my humble opinion, for those who need it – people like me with big hands, small laptops and the occasional need for heavy production while on the road – the Atek is a very worthwhile addition to their kit.

Jerry – the keyboard cover can be used to tilt the device, and I made an update note in the article to that effect. The meat of my review is still appropriate, though. What about for those not wanting to have it at angle? it slides around too much….just my experience and passing it on.
As I pointed out, it is still a good solution for folks needing a full size keyboard to type on, even with the things I pointed out. Personally, I wouldn’t buy a “mobile” keyboard this big, though.
