mercedes removing steering wheel….bit extreme

i agree with arsinmsn…

and its proberbly a more cheaper version of the current q1-EL
its samsung q1 without:
fingerprint reader, webcam, bluetooth, 600Mhz (not 800)

Moving most of the buttons off onto a separate keyboard seems perfect to me. If I need a keyboard I can attach (or associate) it, & otherwise I can leave it at home. This slims things down while providing the best screen to surface area ratio.

By the way, shouldn’t there be a metric for this? How about:
Screen surface area/total surface area

Jason, even if you don’t get leather seats on the Mercedes … you still have seats.

This would be like Mercedes removing all the buttons from the dashboard, steering wheel, & center console and tell you can plug in this extra button pad and rest it on your lap, since there isn’t any dedicated place in the car to put it. Oh and you have to remove both your hands from the steering wheel any time you want to push a button. :)

elimination of keyboard off the Q, I could survive…

elimination of all control buttons makes the device fail and completely frustrating to use. In my opinion of course. :)

not really…think about it!!…its sorta like buying a mercedes…without the extras like the leather seats…

(personally im still happy with my Q1 ultra PREMIUM!!)
but nice to know there is a cheappppp replacement incase..
errr…..water damage??

even though I might not type novels on the keyboard other keys that I use in combination with the stylus like Shift (file moves), CTRL (multiple object selection) Ctrl+Enter (web addresses), Direction pad (scrolling), ESC ey …

No keys at all requires you to have an On Screen Keyboard on A LOT … eating up valuable screen space. An external keyboard is ok for when your are stationary, but defeats the entire purpose of a UMpc when mobile.

While I admit the keyboard on my Q1UP-V isn’t elegant, it is good for quick short entry … web addresses, username/password, notes & calendering. If I plan to write a lengthy email, or something like this comment I use my mini bluetooth keyboad.

I can understand why they would eliminate it for space reasons, but I for one would miss it. The handwriting recognition is good, but entering non-dictionary words (passwords, addresses …) is tedious via stylus.
