Dell Latitude XT2 Tablet PC Specs and Pictures Leaked On Dell.Com

Published

on

Latitude XT2 Our always reliable forum members unearthed the service manual for Dell’s unannounced XT2 Tablet PC. — complete with specs, pictures, and all.

Complete specs and more pictures after the break.

  • DDR3, eSATA, GMA X4500 graphics (they dropped the ATI video card)
  • Capable of 5GB of RAM
  • 1.8” SATA
  • 34mm Express Card ( a change from ExpressCard 54)
  • One USB port capable of PowerShare, which can charge a USB device while the tablet is off
  • They are sticking with ULV
  • Notice the antennae bump on the right side of the screen, which is a change from XT which had a little lift tab in the middle of the bezel.
  • According to the manual, they’ve also done away with one of the programmable buttons — email.
  • The weight of 2.2 lbs looks suspiciously low. I can’t imagine them dropping over a pound in weight going from XT to the XT2. I’m thinking the weight is not including battery or display.

    “Great”,

I just bought the XT1 two days ago. The specifications state “physical 2.2lbs”. What does that mean? 2.2lbs without battery display hd and and….

Nice looking tablet, I just got a 2730p yesterday which weighs in at 3.8 lbs and the 2.2 lbs is definitely attractive. Now the 2730p is rugged and has a metal case, so I wonder how rugged the xt2 is. The 2730p has a lot of density but is very solid and well balanced. I’d imagine it cost around $2000, i’d have buyers remorse if I bought my tablet at full price, the xt2 is tempting!

If anyone is looking for a 2730p a seller on ebay(which I bought from and had no problems) has them near new, fully loaded with a hp cdrw/dvd drive that is powered by a special usb port on the 2730p for $1200.

Shame they couldn’t have updated it sooner. It’s a 2730p with multitouch practically. That is if the weight figure indeed does not include battery or display.

Even if the 2.2 lbs are without battery, if you add the 4-cell battery, it’s still only 2.64 lbs.

I wonder how much battery life that 28Whr battery can provide.

3-4h battery life, 2.64lbs and 0.79-1.06 inch thickness would be plain awesome.

7h battery life, 3.04 lbs and 0.99-1.06 inch thickness would be awesome, too.

And being able to choose between both (plus the slice battery) sounds incredible…

It’s like Macbook Air + even better + usefulness (connectivity) + even more usefulness (digitizer, multitouch).

On this specs sheet, https://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latxt2/en/SFITS/en_SFITS.pdf, the weight is more realistic.

    Height 25.4 mm (1.0 inch)
    Width 297.0 mm (11.7 inches)
    Depth 218.6 mm (8.6 inches)
    Weight 1.66 kg (3.66 lb) (with 4-cell battery/LED
    standard configuration)
    1.737 kg (3.83 lb) (with 6-cell battery/DLV
    standard configuration)

Well, I wouldn’t get your hopes up. The current XT is lucky to get 3 1/2 hours on the 6cell battery, so 3-4 hours on the 4 cell probably isn’t happening.

I really had high expextations on this Tablet and have put my tablet purchase on hold for quite long time just to get an XT2 but in my opinion theres really not much of an update more like a new build of the same laptop :(
Hope the final version proves me wrong :)

I’ve been shopping around for a new laptop and, as a pre-med student, I’m really leaning towards a Tablet. I live in Portland and use Clear wireless internet (www.clear.com/?utm_source=bc) as my ISP. I use a desktop now and I really want a laptop so I can access Clear’s WiMAX connection throughout downtown Portland. Do you know if this laptop can connect to a WiMAX connection, or will I have to purchase a wireless USB modem from Clear?

john – nothing official has been released on wireless capabilities other than what is in the service manual. It appears that intergrated WWAN wireless is supported, but I don’t see anything about WiMax.

The All Day Battery Life mode is very interesting – I think I’ve seen reference to this on other Dell laptops, but not the XT, so is that new?

Has anyone tried using a laptop at the lower refresh rate? Curious what effect this has on readability versus actually extending battery life.

On the clear upside, with Windows 7 supporting multi-touch and Microsoft investing significantly in N-Trig’s innovative technology two weeks ago, XT users should be getting even more value with the next release! (At least we know Windows 7 drivers will be offered and supported early. :-) I also know someone on the research team at another huge and well-known ISV that is working with current generation XTs and N-Trig’s API right now.

The whole multi-touch thing has been giving me some heartburn about buying a new tablet even though I need one – I’m reluctant to buy something WITHOUT multi-touch when the OS will have support built in going forward. I might have to buy one of these things when Dell actually ships them – here’s hoping that’s sooner than later.

The tablet word seems stuch on not getting any lighter. Around 3-3.5 lbs is as light as anything. I use a Motion C5 because it has been best for holding long periods but it is still rather heavy. I want lighter so I can hold and grade papers for longer periods. Any hope of progress on lessening weight?

now it seems stuck on not even getting released. why so many delays if there aren’t that many things changing with the new model?
Rob, you guys have any dell folks you can poke for info?

r – we are in steady communications with Dell….

I’d have to think they want to ship this as soon as possible given that people are waiting for it, but who knows. After looking around hopefully on the web, the thing has apparently been rumored for nearly a year already, maybe the stuff that’s been posted is just an error and the product was actually canceled. (I would be unsurprised to see some vaporware products that people are waiting for never materialize in this economy – it happens in a boom already, and in a crash, even having gotten as far as updating their manuals, Dell may very well have decided not to bother producing it.)

Allowing these manuals to be released and then to stay up would have to be a pretty dumb move on their part though – I have to imagine that few people will buy an XT with a refresh possibly imminent. If they’re not going to release immediately, they should pull these down.

I have seen the price of the XT take a nose dive on the local Dell website up to 450 euro (592.38 Dollar) discount.
I am still hoping the XT2 is getting release soon i have been waiting for this puppy some time now..

Now they’re actually showing PARTS FOR SALE for the XT2 – check out https://search.dell.com/results.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&cat=prod&k=xt2&rpp=12&p=1&rf=all&nk=f&ira=False&~srd=False&ipsys=False&advsrch=False&~ck=tab.

Apparently (i) it will use 1066 Mhz ( PC3-8500 ) DDR3 RAM, and (ii) they’re going for a long, slow tease on the release…
