Amazon Kindle 2 To Be Unveiled on February 9
It looks like Amazon will unveil the anticipated Kindle 2 on February 9 at a press conference in New York City. We’ve seen supposed pictures of what this might be before, but we’ll know for sure in a few weeks. Apparently the real change will be using the Broadsheet microchip from Epson and E-Ink, (currently used in the Sony Reader 700) ,which according to the description on the Bits blog will be a potential boon for those using the device for more than just book reading.
““It’s the same brightness, it looks the same reading a page, but it’s night and day for user activity for anything than other than reading,†Mr. Wilcox said. ““If you are reading a book, you are just going to read page by page and it might not make that much of a difference. But if you want to do anything else with your device, zooming in, look up words, whatever, you really appreciate the speed. It’s a major change.â€Â
While the device is indeed important, I still think the story here is the over-the-air delivery system that Amazon partnered with Sprint to deliver. I find it curious that a bigger deal isn’t made of this given that the biggest potential road block in the race to everything mobile is still the the greed motive old-fashioned business plans of the Telcos.

Thanks for the up date on the Kindle. I have been wanting to purchase one and it sounds like the new version may just be better.
