It is tough to find a negative review of the Beta of Windows 7. By and large the consensus seems to be that Microsoft is getting it right with what people have seen so far. In fact there’s some general excitement and quite a bit of surprise about what folks are seeing. Sure there [...]

Let’s face it. If you’re in the USA, or from what Iâ€Âm seeing just about anywhere, most of the focus the next few days is going to be on the historical Inauguration of Barack Obama as the next President of the United States. No matter how you look at it, this will be a historic [...]

Make sure you add Mid Moves to your RSS Reader. The four bloggers who are going to be checking out some MID action on four different road trips are starting to blog about the equipment they’ve been provided by Intel. It looks like we’re going to hear about some response to the BenQ S6, the [...]

Thomasin hard at work with the HP Mini 1000, late on a Saturday night.
If you can’t beat them and you’ve got a patent claim, then make your dough in legal proceedings. Texas company, Saxon Innovations filed a complaint with the US International Trade Commission (ITC) against six companies seeking to bar them from importing handsets into the US based on the infringement of patents it holds. In addition [...]
Yesterday I posted about the UStream iPhone app that would let users view the Obama Presidential Inauguration on their iPhone and other devices. Turns out Microsoft has gotten into the act as well with Silverlight. Microsoft has announced that Silverlight was selected by the Presidential Inaugural Committee to enable online streaming of inauguration events. The [...]
Yesterday I let loose with a terrifically violent sneeze while sitting at my desk. It was so violent that I felt a large twinge of pain in my shoulder. About 10 minutes later, after I have continued to type I reached with my right hand to grab something on my desk. At that point I [...]

With tons of hype and a multitude of screen shots being posted, I was eager to get some hands-on time with the Windows 7 public beta. I decided to see how much damage would be done to my old Celeron desktop with a fresh install. Although my desktop is not a mobile device, [...]

Those not wanting to brave the crowds and the cold in Washington DC for the historic Presidential Inauguration next week can pick it up on their mobile and not-so-mobile devices via UStream. UStream has been working closely with the Obama team throughout the campaign, and the big news this morning is that iPhone users can [...]

The madness that surrounds CES and our efforts in maximizing coverage with a staff of four means that in-depth interviews are few and far between during the show. We will continue to have follow-up discussions with companies whose products promise to bring significant changes to the mobile computing sector as they become available. In this [...]

If you’ve been following the news, this isn’t suprising, but in the end it is depressing, regardless of how you feel about Circuit City and some of its misadventures. It appears things have reached the end of the road for the big box retailer as they have announced that they have reached a deal with [...]

Layne Heiny caught up with this interesting Toshiba prototype at CES 2009 showing off a water resistant Mobile Internet Device (MID). I think it is a good thing that Intel is pushing MIDs as devices related to specific categories (navigation, media consumption, browsing, etc…) and that different manufacturers are following Intel’s lead. So, I’m wondering [...]
Windows 7 is giving Techno Cop, a dedicated Mac OS X user, some serious consideration about switching back to a Windows platform. Being a Mac OS X user, too, I can certainly understand his dilemma and overall impressions with Windows 7: As a someone who performs almost every computing task on a Mac (for the [...]

When I got lucky and won an HP Mini 1000 at CntrStg during CES 2009 I knew I would have a fight on my hands when I got home. After my wife confirmed that I didn’t purchase the device, I knew she would want it for herself. She’s been working on an original Asus Eee [...]

Much of the US is experiencing severe cold weather with highs in some areas not even reaching zero degrees Fahrenheit. I would imagine that most folks are smart enough to dress appropriately and keep themselves warm, but what about your gadgets? Are you taking care of them?

So, what do you want in a Netbook (or whatever we are going to call them)? Loren Heiny is doing the same thing I am at the moment and checking out the HP Mini 1000. Well, when I can get it away from my wife, that is. And as a good Tableteer, he’s thinking about [...]
A report from Digitimes says HP will launch an Mini-Note 2150 with built-in 3G in June. Coming in the second quarter will be an 11.6″ Mini-Note, possibly based on Intel’s Menlow.

Over on the Direct2Dell blog they are talking about their involvement in communities, including IdeaStorm, this Dell Community including Forums, Blogs, and wikis, Digital Nomads, Regeration.org, and the Dell Tech Center.

Rob mentioned this in an earlier post, but it is worth another look. Ars Technica has posted up some leaked screenshots from Office 14 that are now flying around the web. Keep in mind things are still early. Office 14 isn’t slated for a release until 2010 and though we’re hearing that it will hit [...]

We figured this one out a long time ago, but InPlay Technologies and Panasonic are getting all official on us by announcing that the CF-H1 mobile clinical assistant is using InPlay’s digital pen technology. Press release after the break: ““We are very pleased to be chosen by Panasonic, a recognized leader in the rugged mobile [...]

OneNote’s Daniel Escapa posted up a screenshot of the new OneNote 14 — notice that OneNote 14 will finally be implementing the Office 2007 Ribbon. Close up shots of the Quick Access Toolbar and Ribbon after the break.

Well, if you believe in recycling and going green, I guess you might as well go all the way.The makers of the NoPoPo batteries (no pollution power) have come up with a combo fluid mixture that when added to the magnesium and carbon supposedly will yield a life span of 10 years for the batteries. [...]

Xavier over at Notebooks.com has a nifty video posted that shows a comparison between two Netbooks. One is running the standard Atom chipset and the other has NVidia’s ION grpahics platform running along side the Atom chipset. According to the rep in the video, NVidia is expecting a $50 price bump for Netbooks with [...]

If you are in the market for a TX2525 Entertainment PC head over to Woot.com before they sell out! The HP TX2525s they have are refurb units and are selling for $699.99. Not a bad deal for the specs. I recently took a look at the HP units and was really pleased with just about [...]

The Sony VAIO P continues to rustle up some buzz and I’m sure these unboxing photos at Akihabara News will only serve to keep that buzz buzzing along. Remember it is not a Netbook, it is a Lifestyle PC. Don’t forget to check out our CES 2009 hands on video about the Sony [...]

It is hard to find a device without WiFi these days, but you might still have a device that is doing good service with a card that doesn’t allow you to connect to the latest 802.11 draft N routers. If so this little tiny dongle from Buffalo might be a boost for you. Buffalo’s WLI-UC-GN [...]

Daniel Escapa’s OneNote Blog has been quiet for quite some time, but he’s back and telling us the hiatus from blogging has been because the OneNote team has been very busy working on the next version. That’s good to hear and of course, we’d love to hear more about this fantastic piece of software that [...]

Dr. Neil Roodyn, a long time friend of this site and many in the Tablet PC space, met up with the Surface team to go over some new education centered applications built for Microsoft Surface. Dr. Roodyn’s company is called nsquared. Those who follow touch, multi-touch, and education will love what nsquared is working on. [...]
Just when you thought things were getting boring in the great Netbook (or whatever we are going to call them) race, comes a report from DigiTimes that Asus, GigaByte, and Acer are getting ready to unveil Netbooks with a new Atom processor from Intel. The N280 chip will replace the current N270 and also be [...]

An eagle-eyed reader doing some searches on Dell.com yielded the following XT2 Tablet results .

Maybe you’ve installed the Beta of Windows 7, maybe you haven’t. It is difficult to escape the conversation around it though. I’ve got it running on a VM on my iMac and on and HP 2730p Tablet PC and am soon to get it going on the HP Mini 1000. I, like seemingly everyone else, [...]

I got a chance to see the Samsung NC10 Netbook (or whatever we are going to call them) at CES 2009 and I have to say, I was very impressed with the design and the operation. (make sure you check out the Netbook shootout for some more on this Netbook and others.) Looks like fans [...]

It has been widely reported that attendance at CES 2009 was down. While it was much easier to walk around the halls without feeling like you were stuck in a New Your subway, we stayed busier than ever just trying to keep up with everything. There were definitely good products to see and great folks [...]

Bang! Zoom! Fireworks! Trumpets blaring! Smoke! Flashing Lights! We bring you magic and excitement but we probably aren’t going to deliver it for awhile yet. We just want you to get really excited, write about it, and maybe, just maybe the economy will turn around sometime in the next few years and we’ll be able [...]

Microsoft’s Brandon Paddock has published a very thorough keyboard shortcut sheet for all you new Windows 7 Beta 1 users. I think you’ll find these new shortcuts to be quite helpful while navigating Microsoft’s newest OS.
