USB Mini Trackball

on

evergreen_trackball I’ve never been one for using a trackball but I know many who love them. (Our designer at the theatre swears by them.) I guess where there’s a will there’s a way to miniaturize. This little Evergreen USB mini-trackball might come in handy for those looking to take their trackball on the road. It sure is tiny. It will set you back about $20.

Are mini-trackballs at all similar to trackpoints?

    no
A trackball is a ball you rotate. The rotation gets detected by mechanical elements or by an optical sensor.
A trackpoint is something like a joystick. Simply said: sensors measure the ‘force’ with which you push the knob in a specific direction.

A trackball is one of the cheapest ways to produce a mouse and the worst, too. Because it’s fatiguing, imprecise and slow. Therefore not expensive to produce.
A trackpoint is a superior input device, but very expensive and difficult to produce, sadly. It also takes a while to get used to a trackpoint.

Thought so. Guess I’ll have to keep on the lookout for a cheap external trackpoint.
