Asus Eee PC T91 Coming to the UK Soon

Published

on

Looks like folks in the UK will get there hands on the Asus Eee PC T91 late this month or next month according to a report from the Electric Pig. The price in the UK will be roughly equivalent to $677 US which I hope isn’t the case when this finally makes its US Debut.

This Netbook/Tablet with a capacitive touch screen  has a lot of eyes on it. Loren Heiny points out PCWorld included it in its 10 Most Anticipated UltraPortables list. And Sumocat is wondering why not here first?

Remember this video showing off the touch UI from Asus?

I think Asus have made a big mistake in the marketing of this device. The UK price is simply too high. My guess is that every single review in the UK will say that the device is overpriced and not worth the premium over a standard netbook. I was very interested in this device, and whilst I was prepared to pay extra for the touchscreen and 32Gb SSD, Asus have stretched it too far. A price in the region of £400 instead of £450 would be more reasonable. I guess I’ll wait to find out the final specs to see if the high price is justified, but it looks like I am more likely to opt for a standard netbook.

Don’t they have a 10″ version in the same frame coming out?

That is the one I’d be interested in…

I’ll withold judgement until I see how this performs. £450 isn’t too bad for a tablet PC. Capacitive multitouch might be very nice but let’s see if it can ink well!

Also, compare this to its competition of say, the P1620, which will run you £1600!

Oh, ‘ink well’, see what I did there!

@SAM – Initial story was that the 10″ version would follow the 9″ in about 2 months or so. That is also the version that I am most interested in.

@Gavin – interesting point – actually my assumption is that it will be a light touch device not suitable for inking and therefore I guess I’m thinking a ‘netbook with touch’ which is the basis of my comment above. However, if it were to ‘ink well’ then that changes things considerably. It is a much more interesting device – an affordable ‘tablet pc’.

I don’t think we necessarily have to be first, but the same time or even just a release date would be nice. We’re probably never going to be as bleeding edge as Japan or Korea, but the UK? That’s ridiculous.

I’m going to buy one just to annoy Sumocat now. ;-)
