Sanyo Xacti HD1010 Macro Demo

Published

on

I was shooting some video this weekend and a friend asked me if my little camcorder was any good. I’m very satisfied with my purchase of the Sanyo Xacti HD1010. The image quality in well-lit settings is excellent and it performs much better than my old Xacti, but it’s far from perfect. Low-light performance is poor and the UI could use some serious improvement.

One feature that I’ve found incredibly useful is the camera’s macro mode, which allows me to focus on objects that are almost touching the lens. I shot the below video several months ago to test out macro mode. I think it’s fantastic for a pocketable video camera, but the Xacti HD1010 doesn’t perform very well in low-light situations. Click on HD and watch full screen to see why I dig this camera’s macro mode.

What a coincidence, I have been looking at the HD Xacti range recently. Need a video camera for my reviews. Thanks for telling me about the low light situations, I’d have never thought of that otherwise.

Xavier, in low light I tend to manually keep the ISO lower to avoid the grainy video. Works well outdoors.
How do you find stabalisation though? I love My Xacti 1010 but miss the optical stabalisation of my old Sony DV Cam.

Wow, that’s some zoomage! If I had the money I’d buy one, because not being able to get up close to things drives me nuts.

@Clayton- the cool thing about this shot is that there is no zooming. I just held the camera really close to the objects.

Thanks Gavin. I’ll try adjusting the ISO per your suggestion. I sometimes use a small Lite Panel for indoor shots.

The images can be shaky because of the lack of IS and the vertical grip.

I use a monopod a lot with it and use two hand close to my chest when I don’t have my monopod with me.

    I know, that’s why it’s so awesome! :D
