GBM Shortcut: GPS, Skyhook Come to Dell Mini 10

Published

on

Dell introduced Dell Wireless 700, an option that adds GPS and Skyhook’s Wi-Fi positioning system. I sat down with Hari Ganti and Alan Sicher for a demo of the GPS-enabled Dell Mini 10.

The Wireless 700 upgrade includes the GPS module and software, including CoPilot. CoPilot is pretty simple to use and it’s much easier to enter locations using a standard keyboard. However, a netbook isn’t the best form-factor to mount on your
dashboard.

Dell Wireless 700 will be a $69 upgrade on customizable Dell Mini 10’s. It will be available the second week of July, 2009.

Hari Ganti explains more about Dell Wireless 700 in the first video and Alan Sicher gives a walk-through of the software in the second video.

As the newer Laptops, Cell Phones, Netbooks, etc… will start to have GPS built in. This is great because you no longer will need to have to purchase a GPS device to use with your device. For example I think for the most part all PDA type mobile phones have GPS already built in. MID’s or UMPC depends on how you see it, they also starting to have GPS. Like my Kohjisha SC3 I got a year ago has GPS, my Sony P, and Viliv S5 have it. By the way what ever happen to the Viliv S5 project? or did I miss that. :)
