Amazon Drops Price on Kindle 2

Published

on

You can’t say this was unexpected, but it looks like Amazon has dropped the price of the Kindle 2 from $359 to $299. This isn’t the newer and larger Kindle DX, but the 2nd generation of the Kindle.

That price makes it almost worth me making the jump. But not quite.

    I’m with you. $199 might move me…

Funny. I guess the price change was so fast, the Google ad at the top of the page couldn’t keep up. It still says $359. If you click the link, the price on the page is current.

Hmmm…. 32GB iPhone 3GS or Kindle 2 for $299? (OK, not a fair comparison….but, come on Amazon) When in today’s economy people have got to choose what great new gadget to blow money on… Maybe they should release a Kindle “lite” for $99 that locally syncs only, so we’re not footing the bill for the Whispersync tech. I personally would be perfectly happy buying my books and syncing them at home, as opposed to needing and “always available” connection to pull in new books. I know that somewhat defeats Amazon’s purpose of the revenue stream of anytime, anywhere….but if you’re not going to use it…they should offer an option. I think ultimately the Kindle will not sell well (and may fail) because of the entry price point…

@Gary. When you consider, too, that there is an iPhone app for reading Kindle books, you could argue that you could combine the two into one device. Granted, real estate, etc. You make a good point- a “lite” version. Or just lower the price a bit more.

But, if there could be a color Kindle, as a teacher, I would sure like to see folks lug around there textbooks on it.
