Microsoft offers Windows 7 to Students for $29.99
Microsoft is cutting students a big break on Windows 7. Anyone with .EDU email address can order Windows 7 Home Premium for just $29.99 through January 3, 2010. Here’s the interesting part- This deal is being run through Digital River, a company that sells DOWNLOADABLE software. That’s right. It appears you can download a final production copy of Windows 7 right now.
Microsoft set up a special Web site for this deal at www.win741.com. The number means Windows 7 for One (one being you).
Windows Home 7 Premium Upgrade will be available for $119.99 to the general public come October 22.
Of course if you’re not in college you might want to get creative.

Korbi, try entering your school email address and see what happens. From the looks of the site it looks like it’s targeted to US students though.
Most students get MS software free, thanks to MSDNAA.
I’m also from Germany and thanks to my university, Stuttgart, I can almost get any MS software, except Office, for free. That’s why I use Win 7×64 RTM already :)
So maybe you also have access to MSDNAA.
If not, then I don’t think that this offer will work outside the US.
You cannot download the final product right now…it’s a pre-order process: will be avail OCt 22nd. Still a very good price!
I downloaded my copy of windows 7 from msdnaa also. MSDNAA is, unfortunately, only open to students studying technical areas like computer science.
If you can’t get a copy for free, then check with your university for student software licenses. Students at my FH can purchase SW through “www.academic-center.de”.

Thanks for the heads up, Xavier. Most students and faculty can get Windows cheaper than this, but that’s only one license. This should be a nice way of acquiring a second copy for a laptop, parents, or an HTPC.
