Twitter, the social service that no one really knows what it is but it sure is something, has added a new feature called “Lists.” Essentially if you have a Twitter account you can create a list(s) of followers so that you can try to wade through the stream of Tweets that come your way by [...]

Some are celebrating Halloween (it is officially October 31) this weekend and having lots of fun doing so. Some of us on the GBM staff are doing the same. I’ll be doing that at my job as we have two shows on the day and evening of ghosts and goblins, but we’ve got Sherlock Holmes [...]

This little “Held hostage” feature is generating a lot of comments here on GBM with some saying we’re overdoing it, and some very angry with Dell for the lack of movement. Here’s the deal. This doesn’t just involve the Windows 7 drivers for the Dell Latitude XT it involves other Dell hardware as well. All [...]

Viliv S5 UMPC owners are happy today. Viliv has released Windows 7 drivers and software for the Viliv S5. Check them out here.
The Orange County Register covered the opening of California’s first Microsoft Store. It’s in a mall and it looks like more people came out to see a pop star than Windows 7. No, I don’t know who Justin Bieber is, but apparently he’s popular enough to camp out in a mall parking lot for.

Billshrink has put together a good looking comparison chart of four touchable smartphones. The chart speaks for itself.

Compared to poor incarcerated Rob, I really don’t have much to gripe about when it comes to Windows 7 drivers for my Tablet PC, except I’m upgrading from XP to 7. That means a fresh install, which means fresh installation of drivers. Furthermore, Tablet PCs demand a few more drivers than plain vanilla laptops do, [...]

At the Starbucks for my Friday morning solo venti no-whip soy iced caramel macchiato with extra caramel, I noticed, as usual, many in the crowd busy on their iPhones and other touchscreen handhelds. What stuck out this time was that all of them were holding their devices with one hand and controlling them with the [...]

Here’s a 180 degree turn for you. Asus had said they weren’t going to be moving into the SmartBook market. Apparently at an investor conference yesterday, Asus honcho Jerry Shen turned that ship around and said to look for an entry into the SmartBook market in the first quarter of 2010. What I’m reading at [...]

Sharing Internet connections has been one way to spread the broadband love for some time. There are certainly options to do so with hardware such as the MiFi card (still in the running as one of my favorite gadgets of the year.) But here is a software solution that can all you to turn your [...]

In the ’bout time department, a new Apple patent shows that they are working on a Bluetooth stereo headset, which I’ve been expecting since they added support to the iPhone and iPod touch. In a twist, their design incorporates what is basically the current iPod shuffle, which should enable multiple modes of function. It presumably [...]

Yes, we’re 8 days into the Dell Latitude XT Drivers Held Hostage and while we have some communication going on with Dell, we still know things are on some burner that can best be described as no where near the front of the oven. Rob has posted this on the Dell’s IdeaStorm site, and from [...]

Today Google introduced Music Search, a feature that is supposed to make it easier for people to find and discover music. It’ll be nice to have lyric search built right into Google, but there’s a better solution out there called Midomi. I often use Midomi.com and the Midomi iPhone app. There are several ways to [...]
“Hey dude, I just picked up my new Droid phone! How’s the call sound on your end?” “Sounds great, and it should because you’re calling me on my new Droid! Picked it up at Verizon this morning.” “Right on. Guess what I’m naming mine?” “R2-D2.”

An unnamed Google spokesperson told Apple Insider that the company would like to offer iPhone users the same Maps Navigation app for iPhone is Apple approves. I really don’t see a good reason why Apple wouldn’t approve of Google’s app, but you never know. “Apple is a close partner,” a Google spokesperson told AppleInsider Wednesday. [...]

We’ve posted about the Dual Screen Kohjinsha Netbook before, and I have to admit I still remain skeptical about the device and its use case. A video surfaced with the device in action (mostly promotional) but it is worth a look if you’re thinking about some dual screen netbooking. Via Netbooknews.de

Task management is something that I struggle with all the time. In fact, I probably spend way too much time looking for good solutions as I do managing tasks. Part of my problem is that while I can sit down in an H-Hour sort of mode and plot out upcoming tasks, I also have moments [...]

One of the delicious ironies in the Apple vs. Microsoft battles looks like it is about to end. Apple store employees have long used Windows based PDA devices for its EasyPay system in its stores. They idea is that roving employees can check you out anywhere in the store and get you on your way. [...]

Google is starting a gradual roll out of a new search service for music that should put a tune in your heart. No, Google is not getting into the music biz. The idea is this, if you search for a song title, lyric, artist, album name, etc… you’ll be presented with results that include links [...]

From Gizmag: You’ve got to hop on a plane. Â There’s a presentation somewhere in the world that you need to give. Â Laptop? Forget it… Projector? Â No need. Â Just grab you Allcam CP1. Â Inside it’s small form factor, 2.2 pound brick you’ve got a handheld computer and a pico projector with around four hours of battery [...]

Dell published a quick video of the Latitude XFR XTR tablet being put through some durability tests. One thing to note about MIL-SPEC drop tests is that they call for drops onto plywood on top of concrete. I’ve dropped plenty of gadgets onto asphalt, tile and concrete, but never plywood on top of concrete.

A couple months ago I blogged about why I think personal navigation devices are terminal decline. Today Warner Crocker wrote about the Droid, which comes loaded with a very impressive navigation application from Google. I personally prefer having a dedicated GPS unit in my car, but there’s no question that Google’s turn by turn directions [...]

Well, the saga continues and at least today we have some new information. Although I’m not sure this is going to make any Dell Latitude XT Tablet PC users happy. From his undisclosed prison cell Rob Bushway forwarded me this series of tweets from RichardatDell. From the looks of things, Latitude XT owners are now [...]

I’m a big fan of Eye-Fi’s wireless SD camera cards and it looks like they just became a little more useful. As of today, Eye-Fi card users will be able to automatically upload videos to Facebook and alert friends when they upload photos and videos to other photo and video sharing sites. The 4GB Eye-Fi [...]

The headline may be cliche, but I think it is certainly accurate. I’ve been reading and looking at a lot of coverage this morning about the Droid smartphone, debuting on Verzion next week. . It is being hyped as an iPhone killer and a lot more. But that kind of hype usually ends up meaningless [...]

Curious. We haven’t heard much from Mike Arrington on the Crunchpad in awhile, but this morning on TechCrunch he’s showing off an exclusive picture or two of an early Apple Tablet called the Pen Tablet. This dates back to pre-Newton days. Call it more fodder for the over hyped Apple Tablet grist mill. But what [...]
Haters of CRAPWARE will probably feel good about this. OEMs probably not. According to Ars Technica the PCs Microsoft is selling in its stores (only one open so far as I know) is free from the CRAPWARE we normally see when we buy a new PC from some other outlets. It’s not a completely clean [...]

Chad Essley is one of the best Tablet PC advocates out there and great cartoonist. He recently sent me a tip he discovered to do away with what he calls “ugly, jagged, ink” on Tablet PCs. Smooth Inking is important to artists who use Tablet PCs. Here’s what Chad had to say: I made a [...]

MobileDemand will officially announce the xTablet T7000 tomorrow. The new rugged Tablet PC is much smaller and lighter than the company’s previous offerings, but it can still stand up to a lot of abuse. I got a pre-production unit in for review and shot a quick hands-on video of it today. MobileDemand sent us a [...]

Dell officially announced the Latitude XT2 XFR tablet today. The convertible tablet starts at$3,599 and is designed for emergency responders, military agencies and others who operate in tough environments. According to Dell, it’s the thinnest rugged convertible tablet, measuring 1.5″ thick. The XT2 XFR weighs in at 5.4 pounds with a standard four-cell battery. The [...]
We have been hearing a lot about all the new touch-enabled PCs coming to market in tandem with Windows 7, but you’ll have to look far and wide if you want to try one out for yourself. I spent most of the weekend touring computer retailers in New York and Washington DC and touch was [...]

Yes, another day goes by, and Rob and other Dell Latitude XT Tablet PC users are still without Windows 7 drivers. We’re not just talking touch drivers here, we’re talking any Windows 7 drivers. We’re also hearing that we may have to start a watch for the HP TX Convertible Tablet PCs as well.

There’s no secret that there’s a movement towards Android. Certainly phones have captured lots of attention and will continue to do so. With Android Tablets out in the wild, eBook Readers with Android on deck, and other promises of Android on devices seeming to happen weekly, it feels like Android is starting to build a [...]

Nikkei.com (subscription required) is reporting that NEC has a slate-style tablet in the works aimed at business users that is supposedly as “capable as a personal computer”. According to Crunchgear, their Tablet PC will features a 7 to 8-inch LCD display and quick booting and access to the cloud. Plan is to sell 100-200k annually [...]
