American Airlines Widget Shows in-Flight WiFi Availability

Published

on

American Airline offers WiFi on board 165 of its airplanes, but until now it’s been pretty much impossible to know if you’d actually get to fly on one of them. The airline’s created a widget (AA.com/wifiwidget) that you can use to find out if you can get online during your next flight.

The service is $12.95 per device per flight. If you spend $100 on stuff in the Skymall catalog while you’ll receive a $12.95 credit to offset the wireless fee.

American Airline’s in-flight WiFi is powered by Gogo, which is the same company behind Virgin America’s wireless service. I’ve used Gogo aboard a few Virgin America flights and it made my travel days a lot easier. However, in-flight browsing can be a lot slower than what you’re used to on the ground.
