Great Geek Jacket: The Scott eVest Soft Shell Jacket

scottevestsoftshelljacketOne thing I’ll say for my wife (actually I could say many things) she knows how to shop for her geek husband. Maybe I should say she’s learned how to do it. She no longer looks for hints about gadgets and hardware and by and large leaves that to me. But she pays attention to the thing devices, services, and things I’m using and shops by what she hears. This Christmas she not only gave me gift cards from Amazon and Audible.com, but she bought me a Scott eVest Soft Shell Jacket.

I’m a big Scott eVest fan. I have two of their garments already. The Fleece jacket and the Pack Windbreaker. She overheard me telling a friend that I loved both of them but wished I had a little heavier model for the colder temps we occasionally get here, and thus a great gift idea was born. What I like most about all of the Scott eVest products is the pockets. Each of these jackets have multiple pockets for carrying tons of gear and you’d be amazed and even with pockets stuffed full how comfortable the jackets feel. Perhaps you remember Xavier unpacking his Fleece at CES last year. If not, here’s the video of him doing so. It’s a classic.

The Soft Shell jacket fits the bill for me perfectly. It’s water resistant, feels toasty warm, but is light enough to drive in comfortably. Which is a good thing as I’m heading to Chicago this week for the annual family pilgrimage. It has 19 pockets and in the shot above I’ve got it stuffed with an iPhone, an iPod Touch, an Amazon Kindle 2, a MiFi Card, earbuds, an Mophie Juice Pack, a Canon SD1000, sunglasses, a Jawbone Prime headset, and a few other odds and ends. With the I’ve been perfectly comfortable heading out with whatever I need in the pockets. With the Soft Shell I’ll be able to do so in weather that is a bit colder. I’m not quite in Xavier’s class, but I’m loving this jacket.

That’s a great gift!. It’s a little too warm in CA for thick jackets so I’ve been wearing the SeV tropical jacket/vest quite a bit.
