Teaser Video of the Mystery HP Slate

Posted by | 01/06/2010 | 10 Comments

I don’t think this has been revealed on stage at CES2010 yet based on the live blog of the Ballmer Keynote, but this is supposedly a video of the HP Slate that will be unveiled.

Here’s a picture. Obviously a rendering. Link here. With more from Engadget after the jump.

If it uses a pen too (like the tm2), I’m “all in!” that would make it perfect for education (ls800 mod II?)

this is pretty sweet. However, I don’t think it was enough to stem the tide against appple. MSFT should have done this + Courier. Big mistake in my opinion. Steve should have demoed that blio reader on that HP slate

Still – it is good to see companies like HP and Lenovo bringing their tablet game and doing a good job at it.

Ballmer was obviously pantomiming because there’s no real there there yet, whether it be Courier or this HP Slate. Poorly planned attempt as showing you’re in the game in my opinion.

totally agree, Warner. Apple will kill them come late Jan. This was their opportunity…

Lenovo definitely seems to have more to show and demo – and it works!!

I still like what I see in that slate. Want to know more, though.

I doubt it uses a pen the way Ballmer seemed to be promoting it as a consumer media device. But if it was dual multitouch/pen that could be sweet.

I’m probably wrong on this (as usual), but a consumer media device (aka big iPod touch) won’t beat out what Apple will release. They need a pen+touch device that has multiple uses to get the business/education market dancing again.

    2 HP Tablet = 1 Apple Tablets (maybe) 500 $ VS 1000 $*

    HP Tablet =

    Windows 7

    Multitouch

Inking (Journal, IkSeine, PDF Annotator, Pencil (2D cartoon), Ebook annotation, ArtRage….)

    EBook fiendly

    Plenty of games, many free…

    OSX (Hackintosh)

    Linux

For sure, Apple is the winner with the invisible tablet…

    Wait and see…

I think people are hyping Apple’s offering, as usual, based on mythical ideas, and it’s annoying. For Rob’s criticism that this was just a preview, it’s still considerably more than Apple has shown, and it’s still a huge assumption on what they will show.

I don’t want a “media device”… I want kick-@$$ slate with a good on-screen touchable interface (Win7 scores well here), and a pen interface for inking. Period. Given a good screen size and resolution, I’d buy this in a heartbeat.

    Agree totally with GT2L.

Show me the specs. If I can run some of my current apps, I’m sold. I don’t want a toy solely for consuming media.
