Gear I’m Using to Cover CES

Published

on

I showed Nicole Scott from NetbookNews.com what I packed in my ScottEVest to help me cover the show. The ScottEVest Tropical Jacket/Vest can hold a ton of gear and it’s a real back saver.

Almost all of it fits in my SeV, but I’m probably going to carry my backpack to stow my monopod and my big cameras. Here’s a list of the gear I’m going to be carrying on the show floor tomorrow:

  • HP Envy 13 with slice extended battery
  • iPhone 3GS
  • Mophie Juice Pack Air
  • Novatel MiFi with Sprint service
  • Nikon D700 DSLR
  • Sigma 24mm to 70mm f2.8 lens
  • Nikon 50mm f1.8 lens
  • Canon s90
  • Eye-Fi Pro SD card
  • Ultimate Ears 5vi headset
  • Monfrotto 190b monopod
  • Callpod Duo charger
  • Sanyo Xacti HD1010
  • Panasonic AG-HCM40p
  • 32GB SanDisk Extreme Pro CF card
  • Two Transcend 16GB SD cards

I have the following gear in the hotel suite:

  • HP Envy 15
  • MacBook Pro
  • Two Monster travel surge protectors
  • Apple Airport Express
  • Monfrotto tripod

Xavier: I’m using this venue to contact you because the forums and the PM system have become completely useless! Both are “down” more often than not, and it’s just about impossible to conduct any sort of dialogue because it can take (at least) hours or (sometimes) days to respond to a posting… At this point, the sooner that you can get the forums ported over to the new software, the better!

Why is this important? Because there are some significant product debuts at CES that just beg for member comments. GBM is missing a great opportunity to get the membership involved and talking at a time when you, sumo and the others can ask questions and provide feedback both to us AND to the OEMs…!

Steve, I apologize for the forums taking so long to get into shape and you’re absolutely right that this is the wrong time to have these issues. I’ve been on the phone with our hosting provider on and off today trying to resolve the issue with the current forum- we’ll do our best to get the new ones launched asap.

The DSLR is for taking high-quality photos, portraits, etc. The Canon S90 is for taking good-quality photos and getting them up online as quickly as possible using Eye-Fi / MiFi combo.

I use the big video camera for shooting meetings with companies such as in hotel suites. I use the Xacti for quick HD clips.
