PureEnergy Solutions Offering Wireless Charging Concepts

geardiary_pure_energy_01-500x333A slow but building trend over the last few years has been the move to wireless charging of devices. We’ve seen these devices slowly start making it to market but there hasn’t been mass acceptance yet, although you can say that Palm made some noise about it with the charging dock for the Palm Pre.

PureEnergy Solutions keeps pushing the envelope with their offerings in this area and from this GearDiary report it looks like they’ve made some advances, although these are the kind of gadget solutions that require some real hands on testing before I’d make the leap that would add it to my arsenal. If and when this becomes a real world effective solution for consumers, I’m sure it could help clear up some of the cable clutter that my wife and I have been dealing with as we charge up devices over night on out trip.

Will people really want to travel with such a bulky device? For many pieces of equipment, a special adaptor is needed to allow the equipment to be charged. And the charging is less energy-efficient than plugging in. And there is some evidence for adverse health effects from electromagnetic field exposure.

It seems like the problems outweigh the benefits.

The picture comparison is cute, but: “Will people really want to travel with such a bulky device?” Exactly.

I say go for the travel powermat. It fits in my purse and charges what I need (except for my laptop).

What I would like to know is if the new things they are coming up with for the powermat will work with the current mats, or if I have to get a new one.
