enTourage eDGe to launch with DataViz Documents To Go

4anglesentourageedgeThe dual-screen eReader/tablet enTourage eDGe appears to be headed in a more business-oriented direction with the addition of DataViz Documents To Go to its included software.

The enTourage eDGe merges an e-paper and LCD screen to create a dual-screen device that combines the functionality of an e-reader, tablet netbook, notepad and audio/video recorder and player in one. With Documents To Go, users can view, create and edit Microsoft® Word, Excel® and PowerPoint® files and view Adobe™ PDF files on the tablet netbook screen as they would on a computer, making it easy to modify presentations, write papers and update charts from the same device a user can store e-books, browse the Web, record audio and watch videos.

The mention of only the “tablet netbook screen” implies there would be no editing on the pen-input enabled e-ink side, which is a shame but not surprising. The addition also tacks on $9 to the price tag going forward, bumping the unit price to $499. Still high but comparable to single-screen e-ink eReaders of similar size (or single-screen Android tablets, for that matter). Interesting that eReaders are moving toward productivity, while tablets are being steered toward media consumption.

Interesting. Getting closer to my own Tablet requirements. nNow I just need to know about data entry into the office docs mentioned here, find out how good the VKB is, and hear more about the PIM (email, calendar, notes/memos, and contacts). – (posted from my winmo)
