Kobo, the company that already delivers eBooks on a variety of platforms, including the iPhone, has released their own eReader device. While it’s not the most feature-packed gadget, lacking 3G for example, its approach focuses on experience and offers some unique design choices to provide a compelling one.

Responding to questions of human error, product development group MOTO has a new test of touchscreen phones’ on-screen finger tracking that eliminates the possibility of human error by… eliminating the humans! Bow down before your new robot overlords, puny humans!

AT&T has announced their femtocell service, which routes your calls and data through your home broadband for better reception. It’s called the AT&T 3G Microcell, and – surprise, surprise – it costs money to improve your crappy home reception

OpenPeak hasn’t nailed down a solid direction for their OpenTablet yet, but they’ve lined up a partner to supply its mobile Internet: AT&T.

I’m in Los Angeles this week with HP’s workstation group to take a look at some new products and see how their partners are using HP gear. The PhaseSpace team was kind enought to show us their motion capture system, which combines motion capture suits, a pair of HP Workstations Z800′s, an array of sensor [...]

If you’ve been thinking about trying your hand (non-plural) at the one-handed FrogPad keyboard, now’s your time to buy, or rather, pre-order. Put in your order for one of the next run of FrogPads and save $35.

When it comes to Netbooks, I let my wife Thomasin give them a whirl to find out what she is thinking. You may or may not remember that she has used the original Asus EEE Netbook and continues to use an HP Mini 1100 in her daily chores, which include mostly email, some web browsing [...]

“Microsoft innovation back on top with Natal, Photosynth, Courier and more” read a headline on the Microsoft JobsBlog. Still reads the same now, minus the mention of Courier.

Eye- Fi announced today that they’re filling out the rest of their X2 line with double the capacity and 802.11n, adding Connect and Explore models to the previously released Pro X2. In addition, they’ve added even more hotspots to their upload service, doubling their number.

Samsung Mobile and Swype have made it official: using Swype, Franklin Page has been recognized by Guinness World Records as the fastest touchscreen typist around. And yet, I’m not convinced.

After spending some time with the Lenovo X201t Tablet PC I can say it feels like coming home again for this Tableteer. I got to evaluate its precursor, the x200t, and enjoyed it immensely. Given that the X201t is basically a processor refresh, that same enjoyment of the Tablet PC experience is there wrapped up [...]

Get ready to kiss Adobe Acrobat good-bye because PDF Annotator 3 is now available and it is packed with so much new functionality it’ll leave you saying “Acrobat who?”

As we become more and more a nation of smartphone users, we have to ask ourselves the eternal question, is 16GB of space enough on our SD cards? Cell phone manufacturers keep making new smartphones with larger internal drive capacity to try and keep up with our insatiable thirst for data (photos, PIM data, music, [...]

What to do with an old cell phone you don’t use anymore? This is one of the great questions of our day. Personally, I know I have about two or three old cell phones that I don’t use anymore. I have one phone I use everyday, and one backup phone in case the first one [...]

We here in the US are WAAY behind the curve when it comes to things we can do with a cell phone. Yes, with the invention of the iPhone and Android phones, we can do more with all of the applications developers make available to us. This is all well and good, but what about [...]

March 25 is the latest shipping date FusionGarage has published for the JooJoo Tablet and that’s just a couple days away. In the meantime, the website has changed a bit. Instead of taking pre-orders it is listed as “accepting orders.” I’m still waiting to hear from someone who ordered one of these Tablets. Via Engadget

The days of contract-only iPhone sales appear to have drawn to a close, at least for now. “Effectively immediately”, the U.S. iPhone is available without an AT&T contract or ID and, of course, no subsidy. Still locked to AT&T, but if you really want an iPhone and really hate AT&T, you probably aren’t against jailbreaking.

Dynamism is holding a special sales event for the Viliv S10 blade. The online ultraportable store is offering a couple of incentives on the higher-end Viliv S10’s. If you opt for any of the three models with a 64GB SSD you’ll get a free spare battery and a $70 instant rebate. The Viliv S10 starts [...]

I’m in the middle of packing my gear for a quick trip down to Los Angeles to learn how Hollywood makes movie magic. HP is hosting several events, including visits to Dreamworks and Raleigh Studios. Instead of shoving all of my bag as I gather it all up, I’ve spread it out on my living [...]

I’m trying to go completely paperless this year, but don’t quite have all the necessary tools. My current HP Photosmart all-in-one can only scan a single page at a time, making it pretty labor-intensive to get a week’s worth of mail scanned and uploaded. After reading Dan Cohen’s review of the Fujitsu ScanSnap s1300 over [...]

Everyone has their own threshold of geekiness. I consider mine pretty high, but there are a few lines I won’t cross. The Universal Gadget Wrist Charger from ThinkGeek is one such item. I hate low battery warnings as much as the next guy, but I’d rather have a dead battery than be caught wearing this [...]

Ben at Carrypad puts the “Top 3 Big Slate Contenders” on the scales, weighing the iPad against the JooJoo and Notion Ink Adam. Seems to be a fair contest, in terms of tech. In terms of sales, well, let’s face it, there isn’t a slate out there that will compete with the iPad.

With the iPad scheduled to hit users hands the day before Easter, Amazon is showing off the Kindle app that they hope will one day grace the iPad. We already know Barnes & Noble is working up its eBook reader app as well. But the Amazon Kindle App is not just for the iPad, its [...]

Looks like Viliv and Best Buy have hooked up. According to CrunchGear, Best Buy is going to be selling the S5 (two different versions), the X70Ex Slate, and the S7 Convertible Notebook. According to jkOnTheRun shoppers will be able to start dropping cash on these beginning tomorrow. If you’re in the market for the S7, [...]

Long Zheng of istartedsomething links to the this video of Bill Buxton talking about the Natural User Interface. It’s worth a look-see. Apparently Mr. Buxton gave a presentation at the conclusion of Mix10 Conference on what the natural is in Natural User Interface and this video talks about the same thing. There’s some fascinating stuff [...]

I guess if you aren’t happy being alone with an iPad you can opt for a WePad. Being developed by German company Neofonie, this is another Tablet/Slate that aims to be what the iPad isn’t. It has an 11.6 inch touchscreen with a resolution of 1366 x 768. It’s powered by an Intel Atom N450 [...]

Sprint is running an ad featuring the Overdrive 4G hotspot and an iPhone in an ad. No, the iPhone isn’t running on Sprint’s network, but they are highlighting that you can use the device to speed things up. You probably won’t see the Overdrive ad unless you live in one of the select markets where [...]

Warner Crocker is going to be our iPad guinea pig here at GottaBeMobile and Kevin Purcell is going to be taking up the role over at Notebooks.com. I’d like an Apple iPad to play with, but am holding off because I don’t need one and can’t figure out when I’d actually use an iPad instead [...]

Thoughts from the Sidelines is running info on a supposed leak of specs and price for the HP Slate. Some of this may or may not be new information and some of it we already know. The link to the source is coming up as a dead link for me, so we’ll see if we [...]

My wife and I worked for a couple of hours from home before jumping in the car to drive down to Palo Alto, where she works and I have a couple of meetings. She didn’t miss a beat of her work day as we drove from San Francisco down to Silicon Valley. She was multi-tasking [...]

Blogger and tech consultant Mahmoud Ibrahim has posted what I can only hope is an incomplete promo video for Windows Phone 7 Series. Though some questionable content has been spotted, I find it quite pleasant and effective, or rather it would be effective if not for one glaring omission.

Smartphones are every increasing in numbers day by day. How many people even use “normal” cell phones anymore? More than likely they have one because they can’t decide between an iPhone or an Android phone..or maybe a Blackberry…or maybe its because they can’t afford the data plan..yet. Smartphones are here to stay. To show what [...]

I suppose I could put a positive spin on that headline as others have done, but frankly, I already figured that cut/copy/paste was coming to Windows Phone 7 Series after lacking it initially, so all I see now is confirmation of that in a report from Long Zheng at istartedsomething.

Well, that didn’t take long. Details for Windows Phone 7 Series aren’t fully revealed yet, but already there’s someone thinking about running it on a slate tablet. Looks pretty slick. However, given what we know, it’s something we won’t be seeing, at least for a while.

Just the other day we learned that the Nexus One was going to be made available for the AT&T and Canada’s Rogers networks. Now it appears that Sprint customers will also be able to pick up a Nexus One for themselves. This pretty much makes a clean sweep of the networks here in the USA [...]
