Apple Reportedly Working on a Smaller Slate

Published

on

It usually doesn’t take long after the release of a product for things to start bubbling (true or false) about the next version. That looks to be the case with Apple and the iPad. According to DigiTimes, Apple is working on a smaller version of the iPad (5-7 inches) supposedly for release in Q1 2011. The rumor continues to state that the price point is below $400 and the target is those who just want a reader and aren’t interested in text input. I’m not seeing this one as a possibility but then, you never know.

Will the rumors ever stop?:D Although I know many people had problems seeing the use of the 9,7″ Ipad, I myself have to say that I can’t see how Apple would see the use of a machine in between Ipod touch and Ipad. Although I’d love a smaller and more mobile Ipad.

I have heard they might do a smaller version – with a phone!
    Can you imagine it?

Not sure how much stock I’d put into Digitimes, but after using my sister’s iPad for a few days, I agree a slightly smaller unit would be better. Under 1 pound is a magic number. Hate to say it but 1.5lbs is too heavy for someone in chemo like me. Every ounce counts when holding/resting a computer while getting the drip. 7″ and 2/3lb is my magic device’s dimensions. The smaller size would be more mobile and maybe make good use of sensors. Fingers crossed.

I like the size of the current iPad. I’m a kindle fan boy, but a 5-7 inch screen iPad would be the same size as a kindle. That would seem like a tough sell to convince someone to buy a kindle/nook over a similar sized iPad.

Fujitsu has had one for a couple of years. A small tablet pc.

    I have a Fujitsu u810 it has about a 6″ colour screen.
Fits in my coat pocket and battery lasts about 4 hours.

It swivels into tablet mode , but can be used as a regular
laptop with a micro keyboard, but better than nothing and works in a pinch.

The only thing, is it has a touch screen instead of a
active digitizer and is hard for me to write on.

I have both a U810 and a Samsung Q1. An iPad or iPod Touch in that size would be great. The current iPad is just a touch to heavy to use without a stand, and an 800×480 screen would be easy to read. The U810’s screen is great, except lots of text.

Maybe it will support inking. At which point, I will fold.
