Waikiki caricature artist uses a Tablet PC

Published

on

My cake-making sister was out and about in Waikiki and snapped this photo of a street artist practicing his craft with a Tablet PC.

Even though he’s on the street, he clearly has access to a power source, running both a Tablet PC and a printer. I’d ask for a digital copy as well as a print, which is good reason to carry a USB flash drive around. Reminds me of the caricature artist I saw at CES this year

I definitely want to find this guy next time I’m back home. If anyone can tell what model  of Tablet PC he’s using, let us know.

Update: 90% chance it’s the same guy who runs this website called “Face-nook“. Depends on how many caricature artists in Waikiki use Tablet PCs. Think this YouTube video is him too.

    The Tablet looks like one of the Older Gateway Tablet PC’s with the widescreen 14 Inch Screens. I believe CX 2724.

      The inability to get a good look at the tablet’s base to check for a silver finish rather than black made it look equally like a C-140X/C-140XL/(replace “140” with 141, 142, or 143), E-295C, M-290/M-295, or who knows what other model numbers Gateway/MPC gave the later revisions with Core 2 Duo CPUs and Wacom digitizers. (Why do they have so many names for the same thing?)

      But then I got a good look at the pen being used, which had a silver barrel. That has to be a FinePoint pen, not a Wacom one which would be totally black, in which case you’re probably correct.

        From the finpoint Pen, this is definatly one of the original series.

        C = Consumer
        E = Educational
        M = Business class. (available through MPC corp.)

        The hardware and software supplied varied.
        These were available with dedicated optional ATI graphics.

      Born and raised. Seems I run into someone from Hawaii fairly regularly.

    There are portable power packs (Large rechargable 12V and inverter) that supply 120 v power. Here is an example:
    https://www.blackanddecker.com/ProductGuide/Product-Details.aspx?ProductID=15591#

    DIY version:
    Plastic ice chest on wheels, with handle
    12v Car battery
    12v dc o 12v ac invwerter (connect to battery with alligator clips)
    120 volt trickle charger for recharging.

    Nice find. This guy is “in the trenches” even more than everyone at GBM. Maybe you can interview him or ask him to write an article? That would be sweet.

    It was a Gateway (ack!) which was nothing but trouble. Now it’s a Fujitsu and has been a blessing. All good. Apple’s IPAD is coming out with an app called “Brushes” which looks like fun, if you like finger-painting. You are correct ChrisRS…it is not squirrels that are powering it all, (Tablet, Printer, 2 lights and soon a Pico Projector) but a large battery. I’d hate to take the adventure away from anyone, as I had spent too much time and money researching this simple puzzle, but that is the gist of it. :>) Stop by in Waikiki (in front of Macy’s) for your Digital Tablet Drawing Demo!)
