GBM InkShow: Thomasin Takes on the iPad

Published

on

It had to happen sooner rather than later. My lovely wife Thomasin got a chance to check out the iPad briefly when we were with my Mom at the hospital. Now that things have settled down on that front, it was time for her to check it out for real and offer her first impressions.

Well, that’s what we’ve done here with this InkShow. In addition to checking out the device and some apps, (one of which she succeeds in crashing) she also busts my chops for all that money I’ve spent on apps. Ah, well, that’s life on the bleeding edge, I tell her, but I don’t think that cuts any ice with her.

All GBM InkShows are sponsored by MobileDemand (and boy does Thomasin give them a plug at the end of the show.)

There you go again! Another great inkshow with Thomasin. It is always great to see her first time reactions to your gadgets. She gives us a unique viewpoint and I appreciate getting a woman’s point of view. I think her impression of the iPad is spot on and convinced me to wait a little longer before jumping into the iPad experience. Thanks…

Oh and you should have showed her the web browser.

    Great!
funniest moment… she refers to herself as ‘dumb joe’ and warner corrects her that her name is Thomasin.
    hahahahahahahaha…..

That aside though, I always appreciate these takes on products with Thomasin to get a non-geek perspective.
It would have been interesting to see her take on the apple book reading software as opposed to kindle.
Also.. to see how she does like it with blue-tooth keyboard/mouse and what she thinks of packing those things along and even using them no a table or airplane etc…

Thanks for the report to the both of you.
You two should have a TV show reviewing tech stuff with indepth stuff by Warner and then these ‘every-woman’ reviews by Thomasin.

Why would you need a mouse?

Maybe it is just the paradigm I am used to, but if I had a tablet leaned on a stand and was using a keyboard – I would find ergonomically annoying to keep using touch on the screen.
The reach is uncomfortable and the screen being light would tend to move if I bumped it hard.
        Also add fingerprints.
I imagine if I took this someplace on a trip – say… and was going to use it to do my e-mail for any length of time (or write a document). That I would put it on a stand and use a keyboard and mouse.

Wonderful job. It’s always nice to see Thomasin’s views on these things.

I agree with her that it is an add on device. (And it is really a shame that there is no webcam on this thing.)

This is the first video I’ve looked at of the ipad and I have to say that if it had some proper ports on it (USB etc), an active digitiser and Windows 7, I’d be very interested. Hopefully some of the proper tablets coming out soon will have what I need.
