DigiTimes is reporting that HP Taiwan VP Monty Wong is confirming what most suspect, that HP will indeed bring WebOS to a slate. The report says we’ll see this at the end of HP’s fiscal year which is October. According to the report HP won’t be bringing WebOS to netbooks and we’ll hear more after the acquisition of Palm is completed at the end of July.

That’s funny. Just about 2 days ago I read a report that stated clearly that HP said the Slate was still coming and they would be doing another tablet with WebOS. This sounds again like the rumors of the slates death that turned out false.

    Rumors.
Tech sites belong to a parallel universe where each unfounded rumors gets spread all over without any source check.
This time the source is an HP Taiwan note that does NOT claim that the W7 slate will instead run on webOs.

Officially, HP never killed the windows seven slate.
All the drama is happening in that parallele universe, only for our pleasure.

    p.s.
to clarify: my rant was not against this amazing blog of course, but against those hundreds of tech sites (just do a google news search) that spread unverified news without checking or even citing the sources! :)

Xavier has already confirmed with his people at HP that the Win7 Slate is shelved (not necessarily permanently) in favor of a webOS slate. An October release would be in line with that.

I spoke to a HP insider today who said that Win 7 slate is coming and that the delay had nothing to do with web OS… She seemed pretty certain and said that Web OS would also come later. Hope she was right!

Interesting… my HP insiders said the exact opposite. Another thing that we forget about when discussing these issues online is that HP’s a massive company and there are a lot of forces at work. I obviously don’t know what your source’s job function is, but there are of course politics at play here. Those at HP responsible for the merger are probably more pro WebOS than others, and those responsible for the relationship w/Microsoft are probably more pro Win 7. Only time will tell :-)
