Asus EPad is slimmer Eee Pad – two fewer e’s

Chippy at UMPCPortal spotted a new tablet prototype from Asus at Intel’s booth at Computex labeled the “EPAD”. It appears to be slimmer than their announced Eee Pad tablet, both literally and figuratively, dropping the last two e’s from the name.

No details to report, just a video of it being shown off by a booth babe, but it appears to be running Windows 7 and Chippy speculates it’s using the Menlow platform. I wonder though if it isn’t simply an earlier and mislabeled design for the Eee Pad, just tossed in with every other tablet Intel could find for their booth.

The rush of tablets at Computex demonstrates that simply designing a tablet is easy. The difficult parts, which will separate out the competitors will be speed, battery life and user interface (including how the touch and/or ink works and the usability of the screen). That awaits the shipping of the models.

I am a cynic as to how many of these models will eventually do well with these problems. As much as I wish Apple had provided more for ink and a file system, they at least answered each of the questions.

      …and price: don’t forget price.

People will put up with a lot if the device is cheap enough and they can still get some use out of it (netbook vs. laptop)

What ever it is, it can’t have a digitizer. The geniuses of Asus save all those for e-readers that can’t run a real OS or applications.

hrmm I like the look of the eeepad better, however this whole video raises an interesting point: why arent there more photo’s and videos coming from these events showcasing booth babes :p

This Asus pad is sure to have more success than the iPad mainly because it runs Windows 7 on it and the fact that if you pay a big price for the pad you can find free apps for it.
