The Griffin A-Frame iPad Stand looked like an interesting desktop solution so I ordered one to check out. Apparently a lot of folks are doing the same as Griffin lists them as out of stock at the moment, although Amazon lists them as in stock and cheaper (currently at $36.99) As I said this stand [...]

Been reading through reactions on the iPhone 4 this morning. One topic of contention seems to be Retina Display. Will it shrink everything? Will it create problems for developers? Will the iPad get it? Short answer to all: no. Here’s why.

While still steering clear of the “budget” computer market, Sony has trimmed a few dollars off their entry-level touchscreen all-in-one desktop with the VAIO J starting at $900.

Back in the days when billboard advertising was popular, advertising agencies sent scouts driving around the country looking for ideal spots to acquire the rights to put up billboards. Well, that same principle applies to the wacky world of digital advertising, without all that driving around. The Interactive Advertising Bureau has set up a Tablet [...]

East coast riders between Washington DC and Baltimore of Amtrak’s Acela trains have had WiFi for sometime now. Amtrak is announcing that it will be expanding the free WiFi offering nationwide. Amtrak will be starting the installation of this in the fall. If we’ve got any readers who have used Amtrak’s WiFi let us know [...]

Google has been hinting at changes to its search indexing for awhile now. They finally boosted the caffeine index and have announced Caffeine their new method of searching the world’s information on the Internet. Supposedly the aim is to bring you more info sooner when you search for a topic. Our old index had several [...]

Earlier today we, and everyone else, reported that the RSS reader for the iPad, Pulse, had been pulled from the App Store. This came after the New York Times said Pulse violated copyright, and that came after Apple CEO Steve Jobs mentioned Pulse in his WWDC Keynote as an app to watch. Well, this afternoon, [...]

It is a little over two months since I got my hands on the iPad (WiFi model). I did an update 1 month in and while this two month update may be a few days late, it is only because we’ve been working hard to open Wayside Theatre’s season opening production of Shenandoah. That happened [...]

Having done presentations and had some technical difficulties in the past, and being a producer of live theatrical events, where anything has the potential to go wrong, I know full well that pulling these things off flawlessly isn’t an easy job. And when something goes wrong there is no worse feeling in the world. During [...]

If you’re one of the folks who have been waiting for the Microsoft Office Web Apps to come out of technical preview so you can give them a try, the time is now. On the Windows Live Blog, Jason Moore is announcing that Microsoft has flicked the switch and you can now check out the [...]

You have to feel for these guys. I’ve been getting ready to write a small review of an iPad app called Pulse. It’s a different way to read RSS feeds on an iPad. You can load up to twenty feeds into the reader (syncing them from Google Reader) and then view them on the iPad [...]

First, to answer Sumocat’s question from an earlier post, I’ll be getting a new iPhone 4 32GB in black. Now that is out of the way, here are some thoughts on the announcement today. I didn’t get the opportunity to watch today’s keynote the way I usually do, and setting back and reading the coverage [...]

Okay, we’ve seen the official details of the iPhone 4. So who’s in? And don’t just say “me” or “not me”. I want details, people. Black or white. 16GB or 32GB. I like X, Y, and Z. I don’t like X, Y, and Z. Your opinions may influence others. And please, can we keep the [...]

As expected, Steve Jobs officially announced the new iPhone model today, even kicking things off with a joke asking if we’ve seen it before. Ha ha. But seriously, the leaks didn’t lie. It’s thin, it’s sleek, it’s… probably going to slip out of my current holster.

A report that the Adam tablet from Notion Ink will be delayed until November was greeted with prophecies of doom and destruction over the weekend. Fortunately, Slashgear, which has been following Notion Ink’s work very closely, has confirmed that news of the Adam’s delay has been greatly overblown.

Apple’s WWDC kicks off today in San Francisco and of course all sorts of rumors abound. One of them from Engadget this morning points to a “magic trackpad” that connects to a desktop or laptop via Bluetooth and brings all the multi-touch functionality we see on iPhones and iPads. It also supposedly offers handwriting recognition. [...]

The New York Times is reporting that HP is hard at work on printers that can receive photos via email and print them without you needing to bother with print drivers, networking or anything else your Aunt Bessie wouldn’t be able to handle. Great for non-techies but could be a boon for mobile folks too.

As I teased earlier, I’m currently evaluating a Fujitsu Lifebook T900 Tablet PC on loan from Fujitsu. I’ll be shooting some video of the pen + multi-touch system in action as well as of the general hardware. But since I have some quiet time now, I thought I’d spill some thoughts about the inking.

Nuance, the company behind Dragon NaturallySpeaking, MacSpeech Dictate and a host of other voice recognition products, is holding a contest and giving away three iPads and software as prizes. All you need to do is tell Nuance your Dragon/Dictate success story in written or video form. If you can speak faster than you can type [...]

AT&T’s new 3G plans for the iPad are rubbing a lot of people the wrong way. With the unlimited 3G plan sunsetting on June 7, some people are scrambling to buy 3G iPads and activate unlimited plans to avoid being relegated to 2GB per month. But it’s pretty tough to get your hands on an [...]

Chippy at UMPCPortal spotted a new tablet prototype from Asus at Intel’s booth at Computex labeled the “EPAD”. It appears to be slimmer than their announced Eee Pad tablet, both literally and figuratively, dropping the last two e’s from the name.

I guess there’s got to be some advantage to being a Telco descended from Ma Bell. I can’t imagine another corporation that could survive the number of times that AT&T has shot itself in the foot since becoming the exclusive carrier for the iPhone and then the iPad. It’s one thing to make missteps, leave [...]

Appular introduced the first HTML5 iPhone game demo today. The iPhone app developer is letting customers try out Hand of Greed in a version that’s playable using Safari on the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. Hand of Greed is a $.99 game, so there isn’t a whole lot to lose if you buy the game [...]

It seems that Australian iPhone and iPad app developer Shift Jelly now understands why so many in the tech world have serious reservations about Apple’s App Store. Back in April, Shift Jelly posted an article defending the companies app store behaviour, “Sorry Media, But Apple Isn’t Evil.” Commenting on Apple’s approval process, Shift Jelly said [...]

Liliputing grabbed a photo Samsung South Africa posted on their Twitter account showing off their upcoming Galaxy Tab. The photo has since been removed from their TwitPic account, but erasing stuff from the Internet is kind of like stuffing toothpaste back in the tube, isn’t it?

Got a Pogoplug? If so, you’ll be happy to know a new software upgrade makes it even easier to view files on and get files to your Pogoplug. In many cases, all you’ll need is a web browser and web access.

After a long while, Getac has upgraded their fully rugged E100 tablet with a speed bump while sticking to the tough MIL-STD 810G standard.

DigiLife is showing off a prototype slate that has a built-in projector. DigiLife’s iOne runs on Android, an ARM processor, has a 10.1″ capacitive touch display and a pair of microSD card slots. It’s not ready for primetime, but at least they’re trying something different. The slate market is getting crowded these days and a [...]

Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacobs was at the D8 conference pushing his company’s Mirasol Display. Like other eInk solutions, Mirasol Displays sip power at a much slower rate than the displays we find in most devices today. In fact, LaptopMag is reporting that Jacobs said devices with a Mirasol Display could help devices run 10x to [...]

The Dell Streak is going on sale this weekend in Europe and will be available in the U.S. starting next month direct from Dell for $499. As was spotted in the 10″ Asus Eee Pad, Microsoft has a new embedded OS designed with tablets in mind, or at least that’s the strong impression they’re trying to make. I assume it will work for other form factors too, but what they’re showing is all tablets.

Kno, formerly known at Kakai, formally unveiled their dual-screen tablet at D8, and it is BIG! No, I mean, literally big, as in this guy holding the Kno is not a hobbit. On the plus side, the guys at Kno are serious about pen input.
