What Does Evernote Have Up Its Trunk?

Published

on

Evernote’s releasing something new on Wednesday and from what I gather it’s going to be something big. The company’s being very tight-lipped about it and we can only guess what features or other news will be announced tomorrow.

Evernote is hosting a press conference in the morning at the W Hotel in San Francisco and an party at an art gallery in the evening. Pretty swanky for a company that usually releases feature updates on its blog, podcasts and other social media channels.

Over on the Evernote blog, Andrew Sinkov writes:

We’re making an announcement about something new. Something we’ve been working on for a little while. Something that will change the way you interact with Evernote, and, maybe even, change how you think about Evernote.

Commenters on the Evernote blog are guessing that Evernote will release voice note transcription, task list management or new ways to organize notes.

As I mentioned, I have no idea what it’s specifically going to be, but I think it’s going to be something more significant than a couple of new features. From what I understand the company is putting a lot of effort into the events.

Perhaps Evernote’s going to significantly enhance its mobile applications, add video to the mix or integrate its services tightly with a bigger company.

Whatever Evernote has up its sleeve/trunk, I’m looking forward to it. What are the features that you want to see added to Evernote and what do you think will actually be announced tomorrow?

I use evernote a lot and I love it. It would be awesome to have voice note transcription and better task list features with reminders.

For some reason, that picture reminds me of the picture of the elephant that had been swallowed by a boa constrictor in the book “The Little Prince”, a picture that looked remarkably like a hat.

I’m leaning towards something along the voice transcription lines at at the moment. Given the box shape and the previous ‘flip the lid’ press release I’d guess on something like “Voice Box” as a name for the service ;)

It would certainly change the way I used Evernote and the things I used it for.

But what I really hope is that it is nothing anyone has thought of and that it revolutionises the way I use Evernote … Which I do every day.

The more I think about this, the more I think it’s going to be some kind of calendar/email/task integration w/ 3rd party service(s) like Google, MSFT, etc. I have no idea what particular features Evernote would build in, but it seems like a pretty natural extension. I often take notes about meetings/calls that are in my calendar, then act upon them with emails.
I also wouldn’t be entirely surprised if Google bought Evernote. I really like the fact that Evernote is independent/platform agnostic, but it’d make a lot of sense for Google to acquire a company that made it easy to track/search all of your personal information.

    Inking on Android notes.

The 4+ inch phones and even bigger tablets could support inked notes if the Android app would just allow you to create them.

My guess is it involves either a merging or acquisition of Reqall. Voice note, task, and calendar all in one. That already have some past dealings and if they tie all this together it would be game changing.

I wish they had a more robust sharing system based upon labels rather than folders.

As for this new thing… I am thinking something along the lines of sharing… something dropbox-esque.
You can already do a bit of that with evernote but I am guessing something more streamlined.
