Maybe it’s the way I shop. I usually know what I’m looking for when I head out on a shopping trip, make the purchase, and then occasionally do some looking around. I try to avoid up-selling, in-store promotions and the like, although I will occasionally fall victim to a spur of the moment purchase. And [...]

Yes, the eBook Reader wars are still hot and heavy. It look likes Barnes & Noble is going all in by changing up its branding for its new eReader apps for multiple platforms. After christening its Android App as Nook for Android, B&N is now using the same Nook branding for all its reader apps [...]

Life can sure feel cluttered sometimes, which is why I’m on a quest to go paperless. There used to be a lot of paper around my home office, but I’ve been scanning and shredding like a mad man this summer. But some people are going a leap further and getting rid of just about all [...]

According to DigiTimes, Asus is lowering its Netbook shipment forecasts and Asus CEO Jerry Shen is saying the reason is competition from the iPad. I can’t say I’m surprised and I don’t think anyone should be. With a few notable exceptions, coverage of Netbooks has dropped off the map which is due to a couple [...]

With fresh rumors that Apple might be readying a 7 inch Tablet/Slate for the end of this year beginning to heat up there are some that say that this would crush much of the competition for Tablet/Slates and also eBook Readers. I’m not sure I buy into these rumors for the simple reason that it [...]

Toshiba’s dual-screen concept tablet called Libretto was launched in Japan as a limited-edition to celebrate their 25th anniversary. Seemed unlikely we’d see it on sale in the States, but it turns out that limited-edition wasn’t so limited, as ToshibaDirect and Amazon are both offering it here for $1099.99.

Over the years I’ve owned more than my fair share of PCs, Macs, phones, cameras and gadgets. But the single device that’s had the most impact on how I work is the Novatel MiFi. The version I own will likely be put to rest as 4G is lit up across U.S. and reliability improves. The [...]

James Kendrick passes along a story of an autistic boy, an iPad acquired by chance, and amazing interactivity between the two. Makes me think of Grace and something I saw on Friday.

Genius, one of the other pen tablet makers, has launched a couple of new models of their MousePen tablets: the M508 with switchable 16:10/4:3 aspect ratio and the wireless M508W.

News broke over the weekend that Rupert Murdoch is going to launch a Tablet/Slate based news product, and of course it will cost you to view it on your Tablet/Slate. The blogosphere erupted with a resounding chorus deriding Murdoch’s proposed venture. No surprise there. Of course most of that response is built on the proposition [...]

If you’ve been following along, you know I’ve been checking out a number of styli for use with the iPad. So have many others, including Hector Gomez. Recently I’d settled on the Box Wave stylus because of the rubber or silicon tip and how that makes laying down Digital Ink feel close to doing so [...]

Turn off. Go off the grid. We hear that advice all the time, but for some it is impossible to do, even when on vacation or a trip when you don’t have connectivity or access. This MSNBC article from the NYTimes talks about a group of scientists who took a trip in the wilds of [...]

The great Tablet/Slate wait continues as do rumors and leaks. Samsung Firmwares managed to divine some info from leaded firmware that offer a few details into what we might see when the Samsung Galaxy Tab debuts this fall. According to the post, the 7 inch slate will be running Android 2.2 on an ARM11 Hummingbird [...]
Former HP CEO Mark Hurd officially resigned because the company’s board of directors found that he violated the company’s standards of business conduct, linked to a sexual harassment lawsuit and inaccurate expense reports. But there’s probably much more to the story than those outside of HP’s upper management will ever know. A New York Times [...]

I’m a big fan of Evernote, a service that’s the best note taking service out there in my opinion. Calling it a note taking solution is a bit of an understatement considering all of its features. Today, Evernote released a promo video showing how Aviary, a company that offers creative apps in the cloud, uses [...]

Pepsi is giving away $1.3 million to organizations as part of the company’s Refresh Project. The Not Impossible Foundation/The Eyewriter Project is in the running for a $250k chunk of change that would be used to equipe 1,000 paralyzed people with devices that would let them control computers with their eyes. There are plenty of worthy [...]

Asus honcho Jerry Shen is talking Tablets and prices and info and it all boils down to still playing wait and see. Although in some cases that window is getting smaller. Essentially we’re hearing about three different versions of the Eee Pad and also the Eee Tablet. First up is the Eee Tablet. It’s essentially [...]

Axon Logic is gearing up for a Tablet that essentially runs any OS compatible with the Darwin OS. That could be a Unix variant. That means it is capable of running OSX. Of course that’s a no-no with Apple’s license agreement, but that’s never stopped those who love to create Hackintosh netbooks. Which this looks [...]

Qualcomm executive VP of CDMA Technologies, Steve Mollenkopf, talked up another division of the company, mirasol, whose displays should not only meet color e-ink at market, but beat it on several levels.

Yesterday I wasn’t happy at all when my new MacBook Pro wouldn’t charge. After finishing up a project on battery and then using my TouchSmart PC for the remainder of my workday, I diagnosed the problem as a bad AC adapter. The only thing worse than a component dying after only a few months of [...]

Google’s introducing a new feature for Android devices called Voice Actions. With the press of a single button and a few spoken words, Android users can send messages, play songs, call contacts, send email, visit websites, create notes or navigate to a destination. The video demo below is pretty impressive, but your mileage will vary [...]

Slashgear, which has become the defacto media outlet for Notion Ink, reports that the long-awaited, many-faced Adam tablet will be priced from $399 to $498, depending on model, and has picked up several enhancements. Great news if it ever gets released.

Apple’s yanked Camera+ from its App store shortly after TapTapTap, a popular app developer, revealed a hidden feature called VolumeSnap. Visiting ”camplus://enablevolumesnap” into Safari on any iPhone loaded with Camera+ turns the volume buttons into shutter buttons. This is a heck of a lot better than having to tap at the screen to take a photo. By [...]

Dan Bricklin’s excellent Note Taker HD App for the the iPad just became more excellent. The most recent update added a number of new wrinkles, but the one that has me the most excited is that Dan added Palm Rejection. He calls it a Wrist Guard. For those that are unfamiliar with the App, I’ll [...]

BGR reminds us that both the BlackBerry Torch and Motorola DROID 2 go on sale today for the price of $199 with two-year contract (counting a $100 debit card rebate on the latter). Exciting day for those devices, but not so much for the Dell Streak going on sale here in the U.S. tomorrow for [...]

Harry McCracken at The Technologizer says we need to be ready for all the Tablet/Slates coming our way, especially all those alternatives to the iPad. He’s not alone. Lots of folks are saying the same thing as we’re supposed to see Android Tablet/Slates raining from the sky like manna from Heaven. The Technologizer has published [...]

According to a report out of Digitimes, E Ink Holdings, maker of e-ink displays, will increase production of their FFS (fringe filed switching) LCD panels. In addition, capacitive touch and electromagnetic (active) panels for their e-ink displays are in the works, and a partner will be showing off their color e-ink display later this year.

I’ve spent the past couple of weeks recuperating from a back strain. I didn’t lift anything too heavy or perform any strenuous activities. I simply tried to stand up after spending a couple of hours working on my notebook on my couch. The simple act of standing brought me to my knees and I spent the [...]

My lovely wife and I took a much needed few days off and headed to visit family at York Beach, Maine earlier this week. We only had a couple of days to relax and even though we’re both up to our ears in work, we decided not to take any computers along with us. Well, [...]

Like me, Hector Gomez is on the lookout for a good stylus solution for the iPad. It looks like he might have found one from Targus. You can see it in action from the video below. He picked it up at his local Best Buy. Here’s the Best Buy link. Like the Boxwave Stylus it [...]

Yesterday I had lunch with a couple of friends that work at two of the world’s largest tech companies. The discussion turned to how their companies are using social media channels to reach their customers and community leaders. They asked me what I like and dislike about how companies reach out to me, other contributors [...]

Wow. I guess size can matter. At least that’s what the folks behind the Kno Tablet think. This dual screen Tablet has two 14.1 inch screens. That’s a lot of real estate, and as Technology Review says it feels like you’re cracking open a MacBook Pro when you open it. But that’s not stopping the [...]

The developers of Camera+, a very popular iPhone app, shared detailed information about how many copies of the application were sold over the past couple of months. The company behind the app, tap tap tap, blogged that almost 400,000 copies have been sold, bringing in over half a million dollars. Tap tap tap provided [...]

The government of India’s been working on a $35 education tablet. The government official heading up the project appeared on The Gadget Gurus, a show that airs on India’s NDTV. It’s a very interesting discussion and big promises are being made. Over the next couple of years, India hopes to ship a million of them. [...]

The mini table we first saw back at CES 2010 will finally be available to order starting tomorrow if you signed up for Dell’s pre-sale event or Friday if you didn’t. The Dell Streak is priced at $299.99 if you’re a new AT&T customer or eligible for an upgrade. For $549.99 you can buy one [...]
