If you use Google’s Chrome browser, you can now drag and drop attachments to your desktop from your browser. This is certainly a handy tool to have if you receive a lot of attachments. Awhile back, Google added an easy way for users to drag attachments into an email for both Firefox and Chrome, but [...]
Samsung has filed for a Tablet/Slate patent that offers some interest. Essentially it offers dual touch screens on the front and back of a device. Apple filed for a similar patent awhile back. Does it have practical application? I’m not sure, but somebody must think so. Via Unwired.com
The Financial Times is reporting that Motorola and Verizon are teaming up for a Tablet and it could possibly launch this autumn. According to the article this is a play for Verizon to use its FIOS network to provide TV to the Tablet owners on the new 10 inch device. But what about this report [...]
RIM had the tech world’s eyeballs earlier today. Most were hoping for an announcement that would yield a new Blackberry device worth writing home about, and some were hoping we’d hear more about that rumored Blackberry Tablet. The latter didn’t happen. Some of the jury is still out on the new phone. Called the Blackberry [...]
News of a successful and easy-to-apply jailbreak for the iPhone 4 and other iOS devices lit up the Internet, followed quickly by news of patches for broken functionality, FaceTime calling over 3G, and a malicious exploit with an opponent named Warner.
Numbers, we got numbers! Headlines blare! Analysts analyze. And PR hacks go to town trying to spin the latest data into the latest trend. Yesterday was a day for numbers in the mobile tech bazaar and while they offered some interesting tidbits, they also offered a window into just how tricky it is to use [...]
A report from Digitimes notes that, despite aggressive promotion from Intel, PC vendors aren’t going to sit on their hands waiting for Intel’s Oak Trail system to arrive. At least until then, they’ll be focusing on ARM and Android. Availability of ARM CPUs, lack of availability of the more efficient Oak Trail platform for Intel [...]
My dad picked up an iPhone 4 a couple of weeks ago and has dived right into using it. My mom had been poking around at it curiously, all the while insisting that she didn’t need one. It became pretty obvious that she’d like one of her own so we decided to buy her one [...]
Everyone modeled the death of OQO in April of last year. Before the OQO Model 2+ was ever released the company apparently ceased to be, or at least the US part of the company ceased to be. Well, Ben at UMPC Portal is reporting that a forum user has come up with what seems to [...]
If walking around using a smartphone with Bluetooth headset jammed in your ear isn’t geeky enough, you should pick up a Nimbus Tote to complete your geeky outfit. You see, the Nimbus Tote lets you walk around with an iPad (or presumably any other slate device) with the display exposed for your own use, or [...]
Microsoft COO Kevin Turner is out promoting Windows Phone 7, stating that Microsoft will be back in the game come this fall. Some have declared that the only two viable players in the smartphone market are Android and iPhone, but Turner thinks otherwise. He correctly called Microsoft’s lack of a competitive smartphone operating systeem a [...]
Nielsen released some very interesting numbers today, summarizing Americans’ smartphone habits and desires. One out of four phones are now smartphones, an increase of 56% over the past year. For the first time, more Android devices were sold in a quarter than iPhones. With a 27% share of new subscribers, Google’s free mobile operating system [...]
Hmm… I may have been hasty in questioning the vapor status of the ExoPC. While the availability of that particular device remains vague, its basic hardware appears to be that of Pegatron’s MasterPad, a prototype from the OEM arm of ASUS.
On the subject of Windows 7 ui overlays, I caught a tweet from Mike Cane the other day about the ExoPC Slate, which we first noticed back in February. While not open for consumers yet, the project appears to be progressing with updated specs and a defined ui.
Touch-friendly user interfaces for Windows 7 seem to be all the rage lately. The latest is an overlay from UI Centric codenamed Macallan, which has nothing to do with Macs and looks highly reminiscent of Windows Phone 7 minus the tiles.
