Samsung Galaxy Tab Coming to Sprint with 3G/4G in November?

Published

on

Boy Genius Report is hearing that the Samsung Galaxy Tab may be coming to Sprint this November and that is very possibly both a 3G and 4G device. That’s a lot of “possibly” in there and given the lack of clear information at this point from Samsung (and or anyone else) this quite probably (ha) means that it would be subsidized with a contract. Don’t hold your breath on any of this at the moment though.

So, here’s what Samsung and Sprint should do. Break the mold. Offer it a price point that makes sense (not $800 as has been rumored), and offer it unsubsidized. Samsung is talking big saying that its Galaxy Tab is a paradigm shifter. Sprint is trying in vain to gain traction after some tough, tough times. If the Galaxy Tab is even close to what many hope it is, and these two companies get out front with something really creative on the pricing front, then we could talk about paradigm shifting.

Look, folks, I know I’m dreaming and this probably won’t come to be, but it is a scenario that could make a difference for both companies.

Of course, you realize that Samsung is no stranger to manufacturing and selling mobile hardware world-wide and certainly much, MUCH larger than Apple, right? Before we assume they are shooting themselves anywhere, let’s see how things shake out.

The price for the Galaxy Tab being bandied about is likely the “straight retail” price, or what is commonly characterized to be an “unlocked” price in the mobile phone world where a 32GB iPhone 4 is currently listed for about $1,250, a 32 GB 3GS is $900 and an HTC HD2 is about $800.

Imagine what the iPad that they are, in your words, supposed to “kill” would be if it were available “unlocked.”

As it is, I would imagine we will see the Galaxy Tab advertised at more competitive rates via the more typical “subsidized” plans through the various carriers once the device is closer to actual shipping dates.

    Just my 2¢…

      Mark,

The iPad is ONLY available unlocked, so I’m not sure what point you were trying to make there. You can’t buy a subsidized iPad, at least not in the US. The 3G iPad is sold without a contract required, or even available. The data plans auto-renew every month, but you are under no contract or obligation of any kind to continue. And when you buy a 3G iPad, you are not committed to AT&T, although if you do put a T-mobile sim card in, I don’t think you’ll get a 3G connection. Nevertheless, it is only available to buy as an unlocked device.

—— I want to tell Samsung,
I have a Samsung Q1u, I still am now thinking that the Q1ultra was not bad, and difficult to find a replacer, Q1u was already an old thing. I want a faster UMPC, hoping for the Intel Oak Trail to wait 2011. I am needing a Windows system on an UMPC. In the Android OS, you still are now unable to find a supporting for the RAW image in the image viewer. ExifPro is an excellent image viewer and supporting all the camera RAW images, but it is only for Windows OS.

I am willing to see the Kohjinsha/Onkyo SK3 (7-inch, 700-gram, 3.7 hours standard battery), viliv x70ex to obtain great improvement. Their battery is an interchangeable way, would not be a non-replaceable battery caused to discard of the UMPC, and that the spare batteries are available, if needed.

    —— About the video port
Seems Samsung’s new 7″ Galaxy Tab has not a directly video output port (HDMI), which is needed some the additional expenses to buy a docking device for the HDMI output, even is the USB port, if it is like this, very bad!

a docking device was neither a mini-shape nor a slight weight, would more be the trouble in the applied side. I cannot imagine the users would be willing to carry and using those otiose devices during the journey. Would be willing a journey to carry an otiose thing?

HDMI or USB ports ought to get directly designed within a main body. And not a docking device!

    —— About the batteries
The Apple iPad leads to initiate a bad precedent, the battery is a non-interchangeable way on iPad. If you are walking in a mountainous area 5 days, no AC power over there, however you cannot use a spare battery. And, we knew the battery’s effectual charge life would usually be less than 500 times, once a battery lapsed, if you cannot replace a battery, maybe you would discard the UMPC!

a same trouble is also existent in Samsung Galaxy Tab. After 2 years, maybe you will discard this 799 Euro Galaxy Tab, because a non-replaceable battery, if you now bought it. But 799 Euro is the higher expense than iPad.

—— About the two cameras in Samsung Galaxy Tab
Samsung Galaxy Tab has two cameras, a frontal camera is for the cellphone and the Internet video, but the rear camera is absolutely a trash, merely seemed a pretext for Samsung raises up the price. Any one cheap of the compact camera would be better than the rear camera of Galaxy Tab.

The rear camera is absolutely unnecessary on tablet.

—— Pricing of Samsung Galaxy Tab
Website zdnet.de has a news reported the pricing would be like below,

Samsung Galaxy Tab is pricing 799 Euro!
We knew that iPad is usually 499-699 Euro in Germany, also a few of the stores could be a highest price 799 Euro to the iPad Wi-Fi 32GB (EU), or a 3G/32GB version is 899 Euro of highest price. And, the iPad is having an IPS screen in 9.7-inch, despite likely you like a screen 7-inch.
However, Samsung’s official website galaxytab.samsungmobile.com has merely written a TFT type, did not write the AMOLED or IPS or PVA. Samsung Galaxy Tab is likely only a TN screen?

Samsung is probably already mad to want getting money. Well, we have to say goodbye Samsung, please get out. Apple will launch the 7-inch iPad in Nov, and the screen is also an IPS, not a TN screen.

In 2007, we have merely seen a few of UMPCs, and high-prices, but the 2011, we will get the much types and models!

Samsung looked on itself seemed already an Apple level, even pricing to chase on Apple, could it be really like an Apple?

Apple is a known company, but the Apple pricing was notorious.
