Microsoft Mock Funeral Celebrates Windows Phone 7 RTM
Well, at least they appear confident. Microsoft released its next great hope, Windows Phone 7 to manufacturing yesterday, and as a part of the celebrating staged a mock funeral. A mock funeral? Yep, the funeral cortege included hearses and pall bearers who were carrying coffins with an iPhone and a Blackberry in them, symbolically displaying Redmond’s hopes for the new mobile OS. They even had a group of mourners break out in dance to Michael Jackson’s Thriller.
I’m sure there was more than enough frustration built up inside of Microsoft from the knocks it has taken that this was a big release for many of the participants. Word is Windows Phone 7 gets released on October 11.

Been involved in the tech industry for 20 years now, and if there’s one thing I know for certain it’s this– never, ever bet on counting Microsoft out, because it may be at the 9 or 9.5 count, they always come back swinging.

I just do not see Microsoft doing well with this OS.I have used Windows Mobile since Win CE 2, through the Pocket PCs, then 3 different Windows Mobile phones. I switched to iPhone 4 in July and am frustrated I did not do so sooner.
Good luck Win7/Microsoft, but as far as I am concerned, that was your funeral because you are DOA.

I think it will make it that much more interesting for when they put their there foot in it again. To bad they didn’t have one of the kin’s out there.

Well I would recommend a low profile to miscrosoft instead.
Having been on the smartphone market for much longer than Apple and google Android and yet never having been able to make a decent smartphone.
They lost their market position in front of market newcomers that were Apple anf google.
If I were them I would be overjoyed not to have been the subject of such funeral they mimick, because as opposed to Steve Jobs company they never were able to think about they customers when they designed their products.
They have been and are until the proof of the opposite : mediocre.

I wish them luck. I had a windows mobile phone for awhile and it was the worst phone I have ever had.

It seems that Microsoft is losing the innovation war and this may affect their ability to win the smartphone war. Apparently, Google and Apple are very formidable technology companies that are proving to be capable of identifying opportunities and capitalizing on them. By coming so late into the smartphone market, Microsoft may have lost the strategic advantage -not being first in the minds of the consumers. In addition, the fact that Microsoft Windows 7 is based on a licensing model in which handset makers are expected to pay a licensing fee of $15 dollars per mobile device could make the OS less attractive. According to Henry Caladium of http://www.elnegy.com, the smartphone war is going to be fierce and will likely define the future of the post PC era. The fact is that Google CEO, Erick Schmidt says that he wants Android to become the Windows of Mobile and projects that Google could make an estimated $10 billion dollars a year from Android.Also by acquiring Admob a mobile Advertising company Google hopes to dominate search advertising on the mobile platform.Furthermore , Apple one of Microsoft’s main competitors has a few months ago surpassed Microsoft as the technology company with the highest market capitalization and almost 30% of Apple’s revenue comes from the sale of the iPhone smartphone and they will definitely vigorously defend their market share.Also technology giants like RIM , Nokia and off course HP which recently acquired Palm will give Microsoft a big challenge in the smart phone war. According to the editorial team at http://www.elnegy.com, the thinking is that if Microsoft cannot dominate the mobile platform they may loose out in the post PC era and this may further lead to a decline in the fortunes of the company.

I find it interesting that all of these companies are working on Silo/Proprietary Operating systems when it really doesn’t make sense for the developers or the customers.
Soon we will not care which OS your phone runs on. Cloud based apps make business sense.

seriously……what planet are these guys from…….???? they are living in their own little world, the smartphone market has moved so far ahead and they have come up with an O/S that is really not that exciting……………there are some nice things but not anything which changes the game that they are contemplating the funeral of iPhones and Android phones.
