Apps, Apps, Apps. The numbers (for what they are worth) keep going up in the Apple App Store and in the Android Marketplace. Some are saying that’s a great thing, some say the App-Centric focus is leading to (gasp!) the death of the Internet. One thing for sure, the pace at the moment is dizzying [...]

Google, aiming for speed, has unveiled Google Instant. From my early testing, it is pretty darn fast. Essentially, as you begin typing in a search query Google displays the results on the page. This is only available in the US at the moment and only from the Google home page, although it is promised to [...]

Michael Arrington, the tablet/slate maker wanna-be, (remember the JooJoo?) is posting on TechCrunch that big money is investing in Kno, another tablet/slate maker. That big money comes from Marc Andreessen and his venture capital firm, who claims that the Kno will be “the most powerful tablet ever made.” Kno is still working on getting a [...]

This isn’t really new news, as we’ve seen this before. This weekend when I was down visiting my mother in Richmond, I noticed this ad flyer in the local CVS. I think this says more than any analyst’s approach to what’s going on.

Touch is touchy. It works well in many cases, and well there are just some cases that it isn’t quite there yet. According to this article on TechCrunch web designers don’t favor touch all that easily because it is harder to code for in the browser, and easier to do so in dedicated Apps. Yahoo [...]

I think I should get a job as an analyst. They read statistics and then tell their customers (mostly those looking to gamble invest) what trends to follow. Since the iPad’s release we’ve seen the analysis that iPad’s are chipping away at Netbook sales. That was pretty much a no brainer. Once it became apparent [...]

Shopping for a new smartphone can be both an exciting and frustrating experience. If you already know what you’re going to buy before you head to a local retail store you’re probably in pretty good shape. But if you’re looking to compare smartphones from several manufacturers or carriers under one roof you’re out of luck. [...]

Not sure how to take this news: the rumored HP eStation Zeen tablet running Android has been confirmed by Engadget as being little more than an advanced printer controller. Could be seen as a really lame tablet or a really great printer control panel.

Multi-touch on Tablets and slates have taught us all to tap to have our devices spring to life and execute our wishes. But on Notebooks, Netbooks, Laptops, and Desktops clicking is still all the rage. Until recently, the Mouse has been all about clicking, and trackpads (with or without buttons) have been as well. But [...]

I love reading about the future Google envisions for us, as communicated through its CEO Eric Schmidt. We’ve all known that mobile is going to be the big key in all of this. How else will you be able to have advertising pushed to you when you’re in front of store that may fit your [...]

Rugged computing specialist Getac announced their most powerful rugged convertible Tablet PC ever, the V200, which they claim is the most powerful in the world. Judging by the Intel Core i7-620LM 2.0GHz processor with Turbo Boost up to 2.8GHz, I’m inclined to agree.

There may still be some confusion over the pricing of Samsung’s first Galaxy Tab, but there’s no confusion that Samsung is planning ahead for the second wave of Galaxy Tabs. Xavier reported earlier today what many are saying about the $799 price tag for the Galaxy Tab, and the Wall St. Journal is reporting that [...]

The Samsung Galaxy Tab still doesn’t have an official price tag here in the U.S., but it does over in Europe. Amazon.de is taking pre-orders for unlocked copies of the Galaxy Tab for 799 Euros. The hefty price tag affirms the $800 Galaxy Tab price point that’s been thrown around lately. By the time this [...]
Today, most visitors to GBM were greeted with a scary looking warning that suggested the site is serving malware. We apologize for the inconvenience and wanted to share an update with you. Google tagged GottaBeMobile and Notebooks.com as possible distributors of malware. We promptly rectified the problem and the issue and the warning should clear [...]

Fujitsu is rolling out a new convertible Lifebook Tablet PC. The T580 is smaller than their recent releases with a 10.1″ screen, but it’s still able to rotate in either direction to flip to slate mode. And in a different kind of twist, Fujitsu is marketing this thing as a “Slate-beater”.

As I’ve watched the Tablet/Slate coverage from IFA several interesting trends are starting to come into focus regarding the Tablet/Slate Tsunami. The big names out of this show so far are obviously Samsung, Toshiba, and Viewsonic. Archos is also making an impact. However, when reading the likes of jkkmobile, CarryPad, SlashGear, Engadget, Laptop, and others [...]

The boys of Europe are having fun at IFA checking out the new Android Tablet/Slates and they’ve been giving us some good coverage of what they are learning. jkkmobile has put together his Top 10 Android Tablet list, breaking it down to into size categories (5, 7, and 10 inches). Each Tablet has links to [...]

Boy Genius Report is hearing that the Samsung Galaxy Tab may be coming to Sprint this November and that is very possibly both a 3G and 4G device. That’s a lot of “possibly” in there and given the lack of clear information at this point from Samsung (and or anyone else) this quite probably (ha) [...]

I’m looking forward to trying this out. PogoPlug have released the PogoPlug HD App for the iPad. It contains all of what you would expect from the makers of PogoPlug, allowing you to access your data or stream media from your own personal PogoPlug cloud. But as you can see from the press release there [...]

Yeah, new Tablet/Slates have to pass the Pinky Test. That’s a must. But, if what I’m reading about prices on the Samsung Galaxy Tab come to be, that’s going to keep a lot of pinkies wrapped tightly around fists, tucked into a lot of pockets that could be pulling out credit cards. CrunchGear has the [...]

We’re seeing videos of the Samsung Galaxy Tab, the Toshiba Folio 100, the Viewsonic Viewpad, and other Tablets breaking out at IFA. And this is just the beginning of the “coming any day now Tablet/Slate tsunami” that is going to wash over us all and make us forget the iPad. More is sure to come. [...]

Twitter Apps for the iPhone and the iPad fall into the category for me (and others) of try them all until you find what you like best. In the pre-iPad days, there seemed to be a different Twitter App released every week for the iPhone. I tried most of them. My Apps page in iTunes [...]

Ars Technica reports that a plan to build a nationwide Wi-Fi network has been removed from consideration by the FCC. The decision drew protests by the plan’s promoter and cheers from wireless providers who were against the idea. Where do you stand on the issue?

Not impressed with ViewSonic’s ViewPad 7? Maybe their 10-inch model, which dual-boots between Windows 7 and Android 1.6, will be more to your liking.

For the past four years we’ve struggled to get my in-laws set up with video conferencing and media sharing. They live in a very small town in Pennsylvania, while three of their kids are in California and a fourth is in Illinois, which means they miss out on quite a bit. I can’t count the [...]

Yesterday amidst Apple’s fall announcement of new stocking stuffers for music lovers, Steve Jobs announced the new social service for sharing music, called Ping. Aside from taking a term that many geeks and network administrators have used for some time now, I’m sure Ping will have its desired goal of increasing discover-ability and helping Apple [...]

The Toshiba Folio 100 tablet/slate is running on the Tegra 2 platform and is one of the devices that we’re anxious to hear more about. Roland from Netbooknews got his hands on one of the models at IFA and have put up a video tour of the device that begs for more coverage. The 10.1 [...]

The Galaxy Tab from Samsung has finally been officially unveiled. Yes, it is running Android 2.2, yes it is 7 inches, and yes, everything else we’ve been hearing about it is there including the fact that you can use it as a phone and it runs FLASH. Because it is running the official Android 2.2 [...]

HP introduced some nice new products today, all of which I got to check out in person during a briefing in San Francisco. I got all excited when I saw a couple of Palm reps milling around the briefing suite at the St. Regis in downtown San Francisco, but there were no new WebOS products [...]

Sprint announced today that Boston, Daytona Beach and Providence can now tap into its 4G network. This should boost sales of the HTC EVO 4G, Samsung Epic 4G, and the Overdrive wireless hotspot in those areas. This is of course great news for Sprint customers, but a lot of us are still relegated to Sprint’s [...]

Call me tired, call me bored, or just call me. But I think Apple did its usual fall announcement focused on music and Christmas sales today and did it well. That said, there were no real surprises, but this is all about pushing dollars through the cash registers this fall into December, and I think [...]

You may be able to pre-order it today, but don’t count on mousing around with the now officially announced Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse until December. That’s right, Microsoft is officially announcing the Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse today and that is in on sale (pre-order) at Amazon, Best Buy, and Buy.com. It will set you back [...]

The ViewSonic ViewPad 7 is a tablet/slate that’s getting lots of attention at IFA this week. Johannes from NewGadgets.de got to go hands on with the device and has posted a video. From what we know the ViewPad 7 is running a 600 MHz Snapdragon processor, but the video doesn’t seem to show much lag, [...]

Whatever Apple has in store for us at their event today, their broadcast of the event may be the big story in and of itself. Not only are they broadcasting video themselves, but they’re doing it via HTTP Live Streaming, a sign they think their standard is ready for primetime.
