Would you buy a Verizon iPhone?

Published

No, this isn’t a loaded question. It’s a legit, I just want to know, question. Sumocat posted about the umteenth WSJ story already, but I thought a poll would be in order here. I know many that have shared with me that they would buy one in a heartbeat if they could use it on Verizon, but most of them are now happy Android people. We’ve heard this rumor so long that it’s really not that big of deal on Twitter like it had been in previous false reports. So anyhow, would you grab one?

Me, I wouldn’t only because I don’t use Verizon. In a way, I’d love to see Verizon get the iPhone though. There are several reasons why. The first reason is to see what their network does with all the added data being thrown at the network. I am not saying their network is any better or worse than other carriers, but I’d just like to see them get a 400% increase in mobile data overnight to see what they got. AT&T was hit really hard by this massive increase. I am sure the “DROID” folks are hitting the network somewhat hard, but I doubt as hard as thousands of iPhones in 12-30 year older’s hands. The seconds reason is to see how Verizon would handle the offering the iPhone with their massive Android lineup and apparent commitment to Android. Last reason is that it’s about time that AT&T loses it’s exclusive gig.

Nope. I’ve been an AT&T customer for over a decade, and I haven’t owned a single iPhone, so I don’t intend to start anytime soon. However, I’m torn as to whether I’d like to see Verizon carry it:

    1. I’m planning on switching my wife and I to Verizon once they launch an Android device with a full QWERTY keyboard and LTE – shouldn’t be too long, either, as they said 1H of next year they’ll have 6 LTE smartphones/tablets.

    2. Seeing a mass exodus of iPhone users away from AT&T (if you believe the various reports) would likely do wonders for my AT&T experience right now, which would entice me to stay just a little longer.

Of course AT&T’s insistence on launching craptastic Android devices is a major factor in me turning to Big Red, as well.

It’s tiresome doing research and retaining memories for people on the Internet. I wonder if anybody actually still remembers or can even find the special arrangement between Steve and Apple that made the whole exclusivity deal go down in the first place.

Would I buy an iPhone on Verizon? No. It’s an iPhone.

I’ve been on AT&T for years and had an iPhone for several of those. I’ve never had a problem with AT&T coverage or customer service (I live in Memphis. ( Home of the blues, birthplace of rock and roll.)). I switched to a Verizon Droid Incredible recently and, frankly, don’t see a bit of difference in coverage or customer service. And I’ve decided, old fart that I am, that I prefer the closed system of Apple, with all of it’s quirks and irritations, to the wild, wild, west of openy systems.

As long as Sprint doesn’t get the iPhone, I’ll be a happy camper and don’t care if Verizon gets it or not. I just don’t want the iDiots clogging up the network I’m using, lol. :)

Anyway, sarcasm aside, it’s always a good thing for a product to expand its user base in any way it can. Android has for a while now, had a huge growth opportunity because of being available and fast releases on multiple networks.

Hmm. I don’t think so, but I wonder if it would stop these endless stories about I-phone coming to Verizon?
    Frankly I don’t care.

Despite my bad luck with Verizon (on several fronts), I believe their network is better equipped to handle a major influx of data users. It’s not just about the towers but the backhaul. Their FiOS network gives them a major advantage in terms of moving data. It’s a case where bigger (referring to the overall breadth of their integrated networks) is better.

No iPhone for me, when I have a choice.

I carry a personal phone: Droid on Verizon
    and
a business provided phone: iPhone 3G on AT&T

I will take the Droid any day over the iPhone.
