A Snappier Snapdragon on the Horizon

While the attention lately has been on NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 mobile CPU, Qualcomm is set to release its dual-core Snapdragon chipset sometime next year. The 1.2 GHz dual-core Snapdragon MSM8960 is said to offer up to five times better performance than prior models. Current Snapdragon chips are single-core solutions and have been found in popular smartphones such as the HTC Desire, the Google Nexus One, and the Dell Streak tablet. The new chipset will consume 75% less power than current generation model due to its 28 nm process, making it seemingly more efficient than Samsung’s Orion chips at 32 nm. Also, the next-generation Snapdragon chip from Qualcomm should come with support for LTE.

The company had said that its Snapdragon chip will be in ten upcoming tablets.
