Notion Ink Adam Passes FCC Looks Like News of Some Kind This Week

Published

on

The folks who are making the intriguing Notion Ink Tablets are nothing if not great teases. The company blog has been revealing bits of info for quite some time. Well, now it looks like the folks at Notion Ink are getting closer to release. In case you haven’t been following long, Notion Ink is producing a Tablet, using Pixel Qi technology. Yes, digital Inking is a part of the scope as is the display technology that is not only a power saver but one that will allow outdoor viewing with ease.

They’ve passed through the FCC (hinting that they did this process a bit differently making it harder for FCC snoops to find the info-that sounds like a challenge to me). They are also getting ready for pre-orders with an interesting twist. If you’ve been a member of “the family” by commenting on their blog, you’ll be allowed first crack at pre-orders. Don’t go over there to leave a comment hoping to join that party. Only those who did so before that news are eligible, although there is some waffling on that in an update.

For some time now they’ve been hinting at something happening on December 9 and now it looks like they might also be spilling the beans about Google’s Gingerbread release which according to the blog seems destined for Monday, December 6.

Should make for an interesting week.

It’s a bit premature to say they’ve passed FCC, Warner. It looks like they passed EMI tests, which would only be a part of the FCC testing. Certainly sounds like they are making some headway though.

I thought the ‘family to get first pre-order preference’ a nice gesture to the loyal fanbase that have followed the blog, but also a little bit divisive – it was getting pretty hairy and emotional on the site last time I checked, when it had hit over 4000 comments.

Lots of people coming out of the woodwork to feign their undying love for Adam in the hope of making it into ‘the family’. All very very very funny! But then, i was replying to their blog posts way back in May, so no sweat for me! ;-)

Yeah, looks like your wrong with the FCC info here. The blog did NOT say anything about getting the OK from the FCC. They sad the adam has passed internal testing and thats about it.I agree with Mark ,the blog comments are insane. Everyone and their cousin is now a loyalist who has been reading the blog all year but just forgot to comment but insist they are part of the “family”. I think of them as stalkers, standing outside the window looking in at the family. Nothing off my back as i had posted a while ago. Yes, the posts are funny :) Still with that, Rohan said they may get second crack at pre-orders anyways no not much to cry over. There is a link to an unofficial adam forum below…. https://www.tegra2tablets.com/-Jerry

I might be a bit premature based on the blog listing, but not by much. ;)

The pre-order preference bit is pretty lame. There are 14 guhdillion comments on each post, and the vast, vast majority of them are glomming, fawning slurpers, so the chance of a sensible question or comment getting read or responded to in the middle of all that dross was always pretty slim. I’d wager that a lot of people thought the same thing I did when they checked out an update. “This many people seriously got up in the morning to post variations on slurpslurpslurp and argue about slurping as hard as possible?”

As the day gets closer, it doesn’t look like it will have proper pen+touch capability, so it gets a meh (for now).

At this rate it’s going to end up like the Plastic Logic Que by the time it comes out.. it will be over priced and irrelevant.

I hope you are wrong, cuz I plan to be a sucker as soon as it comes out.

Hardly overpriced and hardly irrelevant. I mean, there are lots of uncertainties about the Adam (UI, App store, real-life performance of Pixel Qi), but price and relevance aren’t really two of them. lolol! Slappy slappy on your little handy!!!

I’m Done fawning over the Adam. And they don’t print my comments over there anymore — Since now my comments are less than flattering. Can’t wait for GBM’s reviews of the Slate. Info is scarce right now, but a guy on YouTube has put a couple vids[ /watch?v=-eNEeFrstpk ) demonstrating it’s inking ability. And while it’s not Wacom, it’s still pretty awesome. Also it’s gotten some great feedback on Tabletpcreview.
