First Video of a HoneyComb Tablet at D: Dive Into Mobile

Published

on

At the D: Dive Into Mobile Conference, Google’s Andy Rubin demonstrated a first look at a Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) Tablet. Using a prototype Tablet/Slate from Motorola. You can check out the video below. This obviously has everyone excited.

Note that the Tablet has no physical buttons. He also demonstrates the Gmail App which looks quite a bit like GMail on the iPad. With rumors circulating that the iPad will begin shipping late February, (probably in consumers hands in April) and Google not talking about a release date for Honeycomb, it looks like the spring is going to be very, very interesting.

Stunning. It looks more like Windows than Android/iOS.

Microsoft must be frightened. Add a digitizer to this, some good office suite and creativity apps and say bye bye to Windows.

Hope they run it through ergonomic and usage testing before finalizing the design. As unattractive as bezel space is, a user needs a place to grab a tablet firmly. That grip in the photo, with his ring finger under the tablet to prop it up, is not going to cut it with Joe and Jane Normal.

I like it for what it is, a media consumption device. I’m interested in tablets that help me be productive and this is not it.

On a side note, why are GBM video’s all in mini-mode now? I have to leave your site to watch video in a size that I’m not straining to watch. I see two options to adjust the sound, none to pop out the video, enlarge it or anything similar. You force me to leave your site to watch the video, then I stay on that site to watch more video.
