On December 16th, users can head over to Best Buy stores or online to purchase the Google Samsung Nexus S smartphone, which will be the hardware platform that will debut the Google Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, which brings enhancements and refinements to further Google’s efforts on Android 2.2 Froyo. Best Buy is now detailing how the company will be handling launch of the Nexus S if you’re eyeing to snatch one on launch day.

The Nexus S will be sold online beginning at 8 AM Eastern time in the United States. If you’re looking to purchase online, 8 AM Eastern or 5 AM Pacific will be when Best Buy will be accepting payment. Physical stores will also be opened at 8 AM in your local time. The device will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limit of two devices per customer.

If you want to experience or see the Nexus S prior to purchase, Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile locations will have a Nexus S on demo for customers to get some hands-on experience prior to purchase.

The phones will be priced at $199 for a qualified upgrade or new contract with voice and data plans. Users looking to add a line can obtain the Nexus S for $250. Contract-free Nexus S are available for $529, though the device will be limited to T-Mobile’s 3G AWS network–you can still use an unlocked Nexus S on AT&T, but you’ll be reverted to slower EDGE data speeds on that carrier.
