Nokia MeeGo Tablet Rumored for Q3 2011 Launch

Published

on

An anonymous source told Know Your Mobile that Nokia’s MeeGo-based tablet will be launching in the third quarter 2011. As the rumor’s source is unknown and unverified, it must be taken with a grain of salt.

MeeGo’s mobile development progress so far has been somewhat delayed; Nokia had initially promised a MeeGo-powered smartphone by the end of the year, but a smartphone release with the Linux-based operating system has now been postponed into 2011.

The MeeGo OS has been recently demoed on a tablet, but Nokia is expected to add some UI enhancements to create a novel user experience that will add value to the operating system and make it easy for users to use.

The company is also expected to roll out gigahertz and multi-core smartphones in 2011 and 2012.

This was a well-informed post. Unlike many techblogs seem to mistakenly believe, Nokia’s Meego is not the open source version that’s in relatively early stages of development. Nokia’s proprietary version is much further ahead.

Nokia did not promise the MeeGo device would ship this year, Anssi Vanjoki just said “we have an important milestone later this year” and that changed after Stephen Elop became the CEO. Elop decided that all not yet announced products will be announced just before shipping date, and so the MeeGo announcement has been postponed. Still the project is in schedule. And @Petrus, yes, it is really important to know that the Nokia MeeGo does not share all the components of the generic open source version, just like it is with Symbian (the open source Symbian will be ready some time 2011 and the Nokia version shipped almost 3 months ago).
