Motorola Xoom Android 3.0 Honeycomb Tablet for Verizon (Video)

Motorola has taken the wraps off of its Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet called the Motorola Xoom, which has been rumored previously, at CES. The slate device has a revised user interface and experience that takes advantage of scrollable widgets, multiple panes, multiple browsing tabs, and a carousel user interface. Various apps, such as YouTube, have been retooled and optimized for the tablet experience.

The Xoom will launch initially, soon, as a 3G model. It seems that Verizon Wireless and Motorola want to deliver the tablet as quickly as possible, perhaps in an effort to be the first–or among the earliest–Honeycomb tablet to hit the market. That said, Verizon will offer an upgrade to early adopters to swap out the 3G radio for a 4G radio, according to Motorola’s representatives, though it’s unclear if the upgrade will be free or will come with an added cost. Though Motorola didn’t mention it in our demo video, we did spy on a slide-out tray that’s small in size, perhaps to accommodate a SIM card–either for global roaming or for the 4G LTE service as 4G USB modems from the carrier currently have SIM cards.

There are dock connectors on the bottom of the device to accommodate a home multimedia dock where you can watch your HD content on a larger television. That said, copy-protected media will not play through the dock, but home-made videos will work fine.

Another feature of Android 3.0 Honeycomb is that updates will be delivered over-the-air so you’ll always have the latest edition of the OS.
