Android 2.2 Froyo Software Update Coming to T-Mobile Vibrant Tomorrow

According to T-Mobile USA’s Chief Marketing Officer, the Android 2.2 Froyo update for the carrier’s Galaxy S variant dubbed the Vibrant will be officially unleashed starting tomorrow. The roll-out will occur in batches, so if you’re a Vibrant owner and don’t see the firmware update immediately, don’t fret. According to the carrier, the update was delayed for quality control and software optimization. Looks like the conspiracy theory that Samsung and T-Mobile may have delayed the Vibrant’s Froyo update to push sales of the upcoming Vibrant 4G may be laid to rest officially now.

In the future, T-Mobile is promising to make updates available more quickly. The carrier noted that it will strive to make Android updates available within 3-5 months of Google releasing the source code. Perhaps that means Gingerbread (Android 2.3) updates could be expected in May?

Additionally, as it relates to the Vibrant 4G, also referred to as the Galaxy S 4G or 4G Galaxy S, PC Mag says that T-Mobile CMO Cole Brodman says that the handset could make a debut at the Mobile World Congress trade event in February in Barcelona.

Could this be a buried lead? “The delay comes from having to integrate manufacturer skins and T-Mobile’s own features, such as Wi-Fi calling.”

Are they talking about Google Voice? Qik? Or could they be talking about UMA? They already support UMA on blackberry phones, and for me it would be a killer addition.
